Metabolic and Microvascular Risk Factors Associated With Brain Health in Type 1 Diabetes

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We examined relationships between metabolic factors, microvascular complications, and brain health in adults with type 1 diabetes. Fifty‐one adults were assessed for metabolic risk factors, microvascular complications, and cognitive function, with a subset completing brain MRI.

Fibrous Materials for Flexible Li–S Battery

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, 2020
AbstractThe lithium–sulfur (Li–S) battery is an attractive high‐energy‐density technology for future flexible and wearable electronics, but it is a challenge to simultaneously realize adequate flexibility, stability, and energy density. Recent studies show that fibrous materials are promising to achieve flexible batteries with high energy density, by ...

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Recognizing the Mechanism of Sulfurized Polyacrylonitrile Cathode Materials for Li-S Batteries and beyond in Al-S Batteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) is the most promising cathode for next-generation lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries due to the much improved stability. However, the molecular structure and reaction mechanism have not yet been fully understood.

Amine‐ and Amide‐Functionalized Mesoporous Carbons: A Strategy for Improving Sulfur/Host Interactions in Li–S Batteries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Lithium‐sulfur (Li‐S) batteries are of great interest due to their potentially high energy density, but the low electronic conductivity of both the sulfur (S 8 ) cathode active material and the final discharge product lithium sulfide (Li 2 S) require the

Fluorinated Reduced Graphene Oxide as an Interlayer in Li–S Batteries

open access: yesChemistry of Materials, 2015
We report on the synthesis of fluorinated reduced graphene oxide (F-rGO) by a direct fluorination of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) with F2 or XeF2/BF3 in anhydrous HF. Characterization performed by high-angle annular dark-field (HAADF)-scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and NMR confirmed the formation of C–F bonds, which is also supported ...

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
