Feasibility and Tolerability of Performing Portable MRI for Neurological Disorders in an Outpatient Neurology Clinic: A Prospective Cohort

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Accessing brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be challenging, especially for underserved patients, which may lead to disparities in neurological diagnosis. Method This mixed‐methods study enrolled adults with one of four neurological disorders: mild cognitive impairment or dementia of the Alzheimer type, multiple sclerosis ...

Cosmic rays, lithium abundance and excess entropy in galaxy clusters

open access: yes, 2005
We consider the production of $^6$Li in spallation reactions by cosmic rays in order to explain the observed abundance in halo metal-poor stars. We show that heating of ambient gas by cosmic rays is an inevitable consequence of this process, and estimate

Lithium salts for advanced lithium batteries: Li–metal, Li–O2, and Li–S

open access: yesEnergy & Environmental Science, 2015
The critical roles of Li-salts in lithium batteries, particularly Li–metal, Li–O2, and Li–S batteries, are reviewed.

Effect of Foot Orthoses on Midfoot Pain and the Volume of Bone Marrow Lesions in the Midfoot: A Randomized Mechanism of Action Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Foot orthoses are thought to improve pain by potentially modifying internal mechanical forces. To test this, we explored whether foot orthoses can modify patterns of bone marrow lesions (BMLs) in people with midfoot pain. Methods Forty‐two people were recruited with midfoot pain, and magnetic resonance imaging–confirmed midfoot BMLs ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

The effects of thermohaline mixing on low-metallicity asymptotic giant branch stars

open access: yes, 2009
We examine the effects of thermohaline mixing on the composition of the envelopes of low-metallicity asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. We have evolved models of 1, 1.5 and 2 solar masses from the pre-main sequence to the end of the thermally pulsing ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Lithium and Lithium Depletion in Halo Stars on Extreme Orbits

open access: yes, 2005
We have determined Li abundances in 55 metal-poor (3.6 < [Fe/H] < -0.7) stars with extreme orbital kinematics. We find the Li abundance in the Li-plateau stars and examine its decrease in low-temperature, low-mass stars. The Li observations are primarily

Bistable Mechanisms 3D Printing for Mechanically Programmable Vibration Control

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a 3D‐printed bistable mechanism integrated into tuned mass dampers (TMDs) for mechanically adaptive passive vibration suppression. Through optimized geometry, the bistable design provides adaptable vibration reduction across a broad range of scenarios, achieving effective vibration mitigation without complex controls or external ...

Understanding the electro-chemo-mechanics of lithium metal anodes

open access: yeseScience
Lithium metal batteries (LMBs) are candidates for next-generation energy storage due to their potential to increase energy density. However, the nonuniform electrodeposition of Li during cycling, plus the growth of Li dendrites and the side reactions ...
