Prey‐Foraging Patterns in a Complex Landscape of Fear

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 4, April 2026.
Prey antipredator defenses may weaken when a predator is cannibalistic or stressed, but it remains unclear which predator prey systems show this effect and how strongly it shapes trophic cascades. In our aquatic food chain (higher order predator, mesopredator, and mesopredator's prey), we found no defense suppression in mesopredators exposed to ...

Raman Signature of the Wings of the Globe Skimmer Dragonfly: Pantala flavescens

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, Volume 57, Issue 4, Page 578-588, April 2026.
Raman spectroscopy is used to confirm the presence of aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and related derivatives including aldehydes, halides, alcohols, acids, esters, and phenols on the wings of Pantala flavescens. The analysis indicates that wing‐surface lipid composition is largely consistent across the three main ecological zones in Ghana. Notably,

Unexpected Evolutionary Divergence of Tachykinin‐Positive Neurons Innervating the Central Complex in Hexapods

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 3, March 2026.
The central complex is a group of midline‐spanning neuropils in the brain of insects with a key role in goal‐directed orientation and navigation. Immunolabeling in 25 species, ranging from bristletails to flies, shows that neurons containing peptides of the tachykinin family of neuropeptides are present in most species studied.

Pests for Dinner: Dietary Composition of Insectivorous Bats in a Fragmented Tropical Dry Forest

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 2, March 2026.
Insectivorous bats are key predators of a wide array of arthropods, including species that act as disease vectors and pests, yet such ecological roles remain poorly studied in tropical regions. In this study, we aimed to describe the diet of five insectivorous bat species from the genera Balantiopteryx, Myotis, Mormoops, and Pteronotus inhabiting a ...

Integrating eDNA and community science to monitor urban Odonata diversity

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 1, Page 84-92, January 2026.
Environmental DNA captured rare and underrepresented taxa often missed by community science observations. Community science revealed adult‐stage observations across a broader temporal window. Integrating both methods improved detection across life stages, seasons, and species prevalence.

The Biological Station Torretes (Ibi, Alicante): a space for the conservation of odonates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Los odonatos son indicadores biológicos de la calidad de los medios acuáticos, ya que requieren, en la mayoría de los casos, aguas limpias y bien oxigenadas para desarrollar sus etapas larvarias.
