ABSTRACT Beaver activities modify floodplains of small streams fundamentally. Prevailing lotic sections are supplemented with several additional habitats (e.g., ponds, dams and side channels). While there are several investigations into the invertebrate fauna of single beaver‐induced habitats, the ways beavers modify aquatic invertebrate assemblages of

Six Labeobarbus species occur in the Middle Luhoho, a left‐bank affluent of the Lowa River, including two chiselmouth species (Labeobarbus brauni, L. longidorsalis) and three rubberlip species (L. caudovittatus, L. longifilis, L. paucisquamatus), as well as an intermediate phenotype referred to as the smiling phenotype.

We present a spatiotemporal joint species distribution model to analyse large‐scale opportunistically collected biodiversity data. Our model addresses variable detection probabilities across visits and species by modelling phenological patterns and by extending the use of latent variables to characterise observer‐specific detection and reporting ...

The application of predictive modelling for determining bio-environmental factors affecting the distribution of blackflies (Diptera: Simuliidae) in the Gilgel Gibe watershed in Southwest Ethiopia [PDF]
Blackflies are important macroinvertebrate groups from a public health as well as ecological point of view. Determining the biological and environmental factors favouring or inhibiting the existence of blackflies could facilitate biomonitoring of rivers ...

Our study shows that the landscape‐scale environmental gradient represented as ecotone and as local environmental factors can alternately determine the spatial structures of the floodplain biota across seasons. The study highlights the understudied yet important linkages of spatial and temporal biotic assemblages and advance understanding of ecology ...

A Preservative-Free Emergent Trap for the Isotopic and Elemental Analysis of Emergent Insects From a Wetland System [PDF]
This study reports a cost-effective, live emergent trap designed for the preservative-free use in both biogeochemical and ecological analyses of emerging insects. The trap proved to be advantageous in several ways.

Morphology of follicle cells of Libellulidae (Odonata)
In libellulids, mature oocyte size varies within and between individual ovaries. The regulating mechanism is not yet understood. Variations in the contents of the follicle cells, and thereby their ability to secrete material into the oocyte, might explain some of the observed differences in oocyte size.

Odonata larvae of Keibul Lamjao National Park, Manipur, northeastern India
Odonata larvae were collected from Keibul Lamjao National Park, Manipur, northeastern India during 2009-2011. The study recorded 15 species of Odonata larvae belonging to the anisopteran families Aeshnidae, Libellulidae and zygopteran families ...

Abstract Subsidy–stress gradients offer a useful framework for understanding ecological responses to perturbation and may help inform ecological metrics in highly modified systems. Historic, region‐wide shifts from bottomland hardwood forest to row crop agriculture can cause positively skewed impact gradients in alluvial plain ecoregions, resulting in ...
