We identified Th1/Th17 cell responses against desmoglein 3 and bullous pemphigoid antigen 180 in lichen planus. In contrast, patients with pemphigus vulgaris and bullous pemphigoid showed significantly higher Th2 cell responses against these autoantigens.

A 42-year-old woman developed a papular eruption mainly localized on the right side of the body and with a zosteriform pattern within the nerve segments TH6-TH12, L1-L4 as well as S1 and S2. The skin lesions were characteristic of lichen ruber planus.

Oral Lichen planus (OLP) is the most frequent mucosal localization of Lichen planus, affecting about 1-2% of the population. It is associated with skin lesions in 60-70% of cases, while occurring as the only manifestations in 15-25% of patients. Six clinical forms of OLP are identified: reticular (the most common), plaque, papular, atrophic, vesicles ...

Oral lichen planus is a common multifactorial disease. This article is not a complete review of the disease, but instead a discussion of selected aspects such as clinical features, possible vascular influences, and the relation of stress and drugs and metals to the disease. Immunologic theories and cancerous potentials are discussed critically. Finally,

Familial lichen planus (FLP) was observed to have developed within a period of 3 years in 2 sisters as well as in the son of one of the women. In contrast to typical FLP, the eruption was generalized in only 1 of these patients; no atypical forms were observed; the response to topical treatment with steroids was rapid, and the relapses were few and ...

To the Editor.— We studied five families in which there was more than one patient with lichen planus, 1 just as Drs Malhotra and Kanwar reported in theArchives(1980;116:622). We had hoped that one of the doubtless many etiologic matters concerning this disease might have been settled by selecting such families and, because of their rarity, discovering
