The Scheimpflug lidar method

open access: yes, 2017
The recent several years we developed the Scheimpflug lidar method. We combined an invention from the 19th century with modern optoelectronics such as diode lasers and CMOS array from the 21st century.

Pancharatnam–Berry Phase Driven by Electrical Restructuring of Liquid Crystal Polarization Grating Period

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Electrically controlled liquid‐crystal twist diffraction element based on the Pancharatnam–Berry phase enables switchable structural periodicity and simultaneous generation of orthogonal circularly polarized coherent waves for multifunctional planar photonic devices.

A CFD technique for estimating the flow distortion effects on LiDAR measurements when made in complex flow fields

open access: yes, 2013
The effect of flow distortion on the measurements produced by a LiDAR or SoDAR in close proximity to either complex terrain or a structure creating localised flow distortion is difficult to determine by analytical means.

Optical‐to‐Microcomb Stability Transfer for Ultrastable Timing and Microwave/Millimeter‐Wave Generation

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a high‐fidelity stability transfer from an optical reference to a high‐repetition‐rate microcomb using a mode‐locked laser bridge. By employing electro‐optic sampling timing detection, femtosecond‐level synchronization and 10−18‐level fractional frequency stability are achieved.

Clear air turbulence detection and characterisation in the delicat airborne lidar project

open access: yes, 2010
We report on a development of a long-range airborne UV high spectral resolution lidar, intended for the detection and characterisation of clear air turbulence (CAT).

Responsive Phase Gradient Metasurface for Laser Stealth and Dynamic Thermal Camouflage

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract depicts a phase‐gradient metasurface enabling directional scattering and emissivity‐controlled thermal radiation. The engineered phase profile redistributes the reflected optical momentum, suppressing specular reflection and generating non‐specular scattering.

Airborne water vapour and wind lidar measurements of latent heat fluxes during COPS 2007

open access: yes, 2010
During the Convective and Orographically-induced Precipitation Study (COPS) in July 2007 over the Black Forest Mountains in south-western Germany, tropospheric profiles of water vapour and wind were measured with a differential absorption lidar (DIAL ...

LiDAR Technology: Principles and Comparative Analysis of Detection Systems

open access: yes, 2023

Urban‐driven homogenization of aquatic subsidy size structure cascades to riparian predator communities

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
The export of emergent aquatic insects is a critical energy subsidy for terrestrial food webs. While urbanization is known to alter stream communities, its effects on the size structure of these insect subsidies and the subsequent consequences for riparian predators remain poorly understood.
