Individuals With Multijoint Osteoarthritis Demonstrate Larger Longitudinal Declines in Frailty: Data From the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that multijoint osteoarthritis would modify the relation between time and frailty progression, in which more affected joints would lead to larger declines over six years compared to those without osteoarthritis using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging.

Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Adherence to Life's simple 7 is associated with better carotid properties

Atherosclerosis, 2022
Cardiovascular health scores have emerged as a simple way to assess the risk to suffer from a cardiovascular disease. The American Heart Association's Life's Simple 7 constitutes of modifiable lifestyle factors to reduce cardiovascular risk. Its association with carotid properties is yet inconclusive.

Question 7: The First Units of Life Were Not Simple Cells

Origins of Life and Evolution of Biospheres, 2007
Five common assumptions about the first cells are challenged by the pre-biotic ecology model and are replaced by the following propositions: firstly, early cells were more complex, more varied and had a greater diversity of constituents than modern cells; secondly, the complexity of a cell is not related to the number of genes it contains, indeed ...

Personal Health Literacy and Life Simple 7: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis

American Journal of Health Education, 2023
Personal Health literacy (PHL) is essential in cardiovascular risk management. Hindrances in PHL can lead to poor cardiovascular outcomes. To investigate whether limited PHL is associated with lower likelihoods of i) overall cardiovascular health and ii) individual cardiovascular health components as defined by the American Heart Association's Life ...

Life's Simple 7 and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: The Multiethnic Study of Atherosclerosis

The American Journal of Medicine, 2021
The American Heart Association (AHA) has defined Life's Simple 7 (LS7) as a measure of overall cardiovascular health . Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been involved as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. We evaluated the association between LS7 and NAFLD.We evaluated participants form the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA ...

Abstract P128: The Epigenomic Signature of Life's Simple 7

Circulation, 2018
Introduction: Life’s Simple 7 (LS7) comprises seven health factors and behaviors promoted by the American Heart Association to reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Despite compelling evidence of inverse association between LS7 adherence and a variety of adverse health outcomes, the epigenetic sequelae of healthy ...

Improving cardiovascular health of underserved populations in the community with Life's Simple 7

Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2015
The purpose of this nurse practitioner (NP) led initiative was to improve the cardiovascular health of two underserved populations in the community using the American Heart Association (AHA) Life's Simple 7 and My Life Check (MLC) tools. Two inner city community sites were targeted: (a) a senior center servicing African American (AA) older adults, and ...

Evaluation and Implementation of Lifestyle Habits and Life's Simple 7 in Northwest Indiana

Physiology, 2023
The CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) provides insight into many factors that contribute to the lack of health equity, such as poverty, lack of transportation, and crowded housing. Purdue University Northwest (PNW) has campuses located in Hammond, IN (Lake County) and in Westville, IN (LaPorte County).
