Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Hybrid control systems

open access: yes, 2004
Most practical control systems involve both analogue and logic components. Hybrid control system is a generic term for such systems, where the continuous and the discrete dynamics are interacting.

Transcriptomic comparison between populations selected for higher and lower mobility in the red flour beetle Tribolium castaneum

open access: yesScientific Reports
Movement is an important behavior observed in a wide range of taxa. Previous studies have examined genes controlling movement using wing polymorphic insects and genes controlling wing size.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A History of Spacecraft Environmental Control and Life Support Systems

open access: yes, 2006
A spacecraft's Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) system enables and maintains a habitable and sustaining environment for its crew. A typical ECLS system provides for atmosphere consumables and revitalization, environmental monitoring ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

The nitrogen cycle in Life Support Systems

open access: yes, 2015
At present, human life in Space flights and in the International Space Station (ISS) is guaranteed by a regular resupply of food. However, in order to explore deep Space with long term missions and Space habitation, resupply from Earth becomes difficult ...

Use of a Multi-modality Life Support System

open access: yesThe Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology, 2008
The purpose of this study was to describe the design and utilization of a multi-modality life support system (MMLSS), which is used to provide extracorporeal support for cases such as left heart bypass (LHB), extracorporeal life support (ECLS), veno-venous bypass, and hypothermic resuscitation.
