Gender differences in changes in alcohol consumption achieved by free provision of non-alcoholic beverages: a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background We recently demonstrated that a 12-week intervention consisting of the provision of free non-alcoholic beverages reduced alcohol consumption in excessive drinkers for 8 weeks after the intervention.

Combination of 3D and 2D Small and Wide Angle X‐Ray Scattering Imaging Reveals Diminished Bone Quality in the Superior Human Femoral Neck Cortex

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Combined 2D and 3D X‐ray scattering imaging is used to analyse nanostructural properties in the inferior and superior cortex of 78 human femoral necks from 44 donors. The methodology allows for increased interpretation of nanostructure in a statistically relevant dataset, revealing nanostructural differences in anatomical locations critical to clinical

The effectiveness of reduction in alcohol consumption achieved by the provision of non-alcoholic beverages associates with Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test scores: a secondary analysis of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesBMC Medicine
Background The Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT) is commonly used in clinical settings to assess the severity of alcohol-related problems, with the effectiveness of alcohol reduction interventions varying across this spectrum. In a recent

Acute effects of commercial energy drink consumption on exercise performance and cardiovascular safety: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial

open access: yesJournal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition
The aim of this study was to examine the acute effects of a non-caloric energy drink (C4E) compared to a traditional sugar-containing energy drink (MED) and non-caloric placebo (PLA) on exercise performance and cardiovascular safety.

Dissecting the Ecological Structure of Health and Disease in the Global Gut Microbiome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce Wiredancer, a framework that identifies three continuous ecological factors of the gut microbiota. These factors exhibit distinct patterns across health and disease, jointly capturing disrupted ecological stability and offering a new perspective for precision diagnostics and therapeutic strategies.

A case report of Barrett's esophageal adenocarcinoma in a young adult aged 20 years

open access: yesDEN Open
In Japan, the prevalence of Barrett's esophageal adenocarcinoma (BEA) has recently increased owing to a decrease in the number of patients with Helicobacter pylori infection, westernization of the diet, and an increase in obesity prevalence. However, BEA

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.

Amuc_1473 Links Gut Microbes to Skeletal Homeostasis and Counteracts Multifactorial Osteoporosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Amuc_1473, a previously uncharacterized protein enriched in Akkermansia muciniphila‐derived extracellular vesicles, is identified as a gut–bone messenger that promotes osteogenesis and inhibits osteoclastogenesis by engaging transcriptional and translational regulators in bone cells.

Human‐Centered Innovation: Precision Nutrition and the Future of Food

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutritional science is moving beyond one‐size‐fits‐all recommendations toward more precise and personalized approaches, yet its implementation pathway remains unclear. This paper proposes a human‐centered precision nutrition framework that highlights the central roles of artificial intelligence (AI), food innovation, and human agency.
