Assessment of a rotor blade extension retrofit as a supplement to the lifetime extension of wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yesWind Energy Science, 2020
The potential lifetime of wind turbine components is usually not fully utilized as the site conditions are less severe than assumed in the turbine design.

Estimating the potentials for reducing the impacts on climate change by increasing the cascade use and extending the lifetime of wood products in Germany

open access: yesResources, Conservation & Recycling: X, 2020
Cascade use has been identified as a key concept towards the sustainable use of bio-based products aiming at the hierarchical utilization of biomass, first as materials; secondly recycled into new materials; and finally used energetically. This principle

Relay augmentation for lifetime extension of wireless sensor networks [PDF]

open access: yesIET Wireless Sensor Systems, 2013
The authors propose a novel relay augmentation strategy for extending the lifetime of a certain class of wireless sensor networks. In this class sensors are located at fixed and pre‐determined positions and all communication takes place through multi‐hop paths in a fixed routing tree rooted at the base station.

Lifetime Extension Report: Progress on the SAVY-4000 Lifetime Extension Program

open access: yes, 2016
The 3-year accelerated aging study of the SAVY-4000 O-ring shows very little evidence of significant degradation to samples subjected to aggressive elevated temperature and radiation conditions. Whole container thermal aging studies followed by helium leakage testing and compression set measurements were used to establish an estimate for a failure ...

Overview of Methods for Battery Lifetime Extension

open access: yes2021 23rd European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE'21 ECCE Europe), 2021
Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are widely used in transportation, aerospace, and electrical. How to extend their lifetime has become an important topic. In this paper, the methods for battery lifetime extension in terms of thermal management, charging/discharging optimization, and power and energy management control strategies are reviewed.

Establishing an Apheresis Medicine Program in a Resource‐Constrained Setting: A 5‐Year Experience From Lagos, Nigeria

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Establishing a comprehensive apheresis medicine program in a resource‐constrained setting presents significant structural, financial, and logistical challenges. Despite the growing clinical importance of apheresis services globally, published experience from sub‐Saharan Africa remains sparse.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
