Lift force control of a flapping-wing microrobot

Proceedings of the 2011 American Control Conference, 2011
This paper introduces a methodology for designing real-time controllers capable of enforcing desired trajectories on microrobotic insects in vertical flight and hovering. The main idea considered in this work is that altitude control can be translated into a problem of lift force control.

Lift Force of an Airfoil in the Form of an Arc with a Sink

Journal of Applied Mechanics and Technical Physics, 2001
The problem of maximizing the lift force of an airfoil in the form of an arc with a sink modeling flow removal is studied within the framework of the classical model of a steady ideal incompressible liquid flow. For a sink with a fixed flow rate, an optimal position on the upper surface of the arc is found, which ensures the greatest increase in the ...

CHARACTERIZATION OF HYDRODYNAMIC LIFT FORCES BY FIELD-FLOW FRACTIONATION. INERTIAL AND NEAR-WALL LIFT FORCES

Chemical Engineering Communications, 1994
Abstract Sedimentation/steric FFF has been used to measure hydrodynamic lift forces exerted on 2-30 μm latex microspheresdnven by flow through a 95 cm long ribbonlike FFF channel of ∼ 127 um thickness. Following a previous study, lift forces are examined as a function of shear rate, distance from the wall, and sphere size.

Lift forces of screws in shear flows

Physics of Fluids, 2007
We have measured the forces in the vorticity direction experienced by chiral screws in shear flows, with the Reynolds number at the order of 103. The measured force directions depend on the screw handedness, being in the positive vorticity direction for left-handed screws and opposite for right-handed ones.

Some Aspects of the Lift Force on a Spherical Bubble

1998
We examine several situations in which a spherical bubble experiences a lift force, especially computational results obtained by solving the full Navier-Stokes equations. The lift force is computed over a wide range of Reynolds number for the case of pure shear flow, pure strain and solid body rotation.
