Variational approach to the lifting surface problem
11th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1973Application of a variational principle to the nonself-adjoint lifting surface integral equation, first proposed by Flax, is given a closer look from the finite-element viewpoint. A scheme to avoid the usual introduction of the reverse flow is proposed.

A hypersonic lift mechanism with decoupled lift and drag surfaces
Science China Physics, Mechanics and Astronomy, 2013In the present study, we propose a novel lift mechanism for which the lifting surface produces only lift. This is achieved by mounting a two-dimensional shock-shock interaction generator below the lifting surface. The shock-shock interaction theory in conjunction with a three dimensional correction and checked with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is

High Lift Aerodynamic characteristics of a Three Lifting Surfaces Turboprop Aircraft
AIAA Aviation 2019 Forum, 2019This paper deals with the aerodynamic design and analysis of the high lift capabilities of a three lifting surfaces turboprop aircraft. The aircraft under investigation is part of IRON European Union (EU) funded research project, aimed to provide an innovative regional turboprop aircraft, with advanced performance.

Investigation on Lifting Angle of Polyimide Self-assembly Surface Micromachined Structure
This study presents a polyimide (PI) self-assembly technique for the development of three-dimensional surface micromachined structures. The effects of the geometric factors and the curing temperature of the PI elastic joints on the lifting angle of such ...

Subsonic transient lifting surface aerodynamics
16th Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 1975A method is presented for numerical evaluation of subsonic transient lifting surface aerodynamics. Existing subsonic oscillatory aerodynamic procedures are modified to evaluate generalized aerodynamic forces as two matrices: aerodynamic stiffness and damping. Transfer functions are evaluated numerically which describe the complex variation with reduced

Lifting Surfaces With Circular Planforms
Journal of Ship Research, 2005A general lifting surface computer program is used for the special case where the planform is a circle, in order to compare lift and pitching moment with semianalytic solutions.

Lifting a symmetry of a Riemann surface
Revista de la Real Academia de Ciencias Exactas, FĂsicas y Naturales. Serie A. Matemáticas, 2017Let \(\pi: X \rightarrow Y\) be a normal covering between the compact Riemann surfaces \(X\) and \(Y\). Given an automorphism \(\varphi\) of \(Y\) an interesting problem is to determine conditions for the existence of an automorphism \(\phi\) of \(X\) such that \(\varphi \pi = \pi \phi\). We say that \(\phi\) is a lifting of \(\varphi\).

A lifting surface theory for the analysis of nonplanar lifting systems
14th Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1976A new nonlinear, nonplanar lifting surface theory is presented. The method is regarded as a lifting surface theory in that the effects of wing thickness are neglected, but none of the usual small perturbation assumptions inherent in most other lifting surface theories are made.

Lifted Surfacing of Generalized Sweep Volumes
ACM Transactions on GraphicsComputing the boundary surface of the 3D volume swept by a rigid or deforming solid remains a challenging problem in geometric modeling. Existing approaches are often limited to sweeping rigid shapes, cannot guarantee a watertight surface, or struggle with modeling the intricate geometric features (e.g., sharp creases and narrow gaps) and topological ...

Correlation of lift and boundary-layer activity on an oscillating lifting surface
AIAA Journal, 1982Boundary-layer and trailing-edge flow activities were recorded using hydrogen bubble flow visualization techniques on an oscillating lifting surface in a two-dimensional water tunnel. Simultaneous with flow documentation, unsteady lift was measured over a range of reduced frequencies of 0.5-10.
