Cecal Ligation and Puncture [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Protocols in Immunology, 2010
AbstractThe cecum contains a high concentration of microbes, which are a combination of Gram‐negative and Gram‐positive flora. These bacteria range from anaerobic to facultative aerobic to aerobic organisms. In the procedure described in this unit, the ligation of the cecum produces a source of ischemic tissue as well as polymicrobial infection.

The Sole DNA Ligase in Entamoeba histolytica Is a High-Fidelity DNA Ligase Involved in DNA Damage Repair

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2018
The protozoan parasite Entamoeba histolytica is exposed to reactive oxygen and nitric oxide species that have the potential to damage its genome. E. histolytica harbors enzymes involved in DNA repair pathways like Base and Nucleotide Excision Repair. The

Suprarenal inferior vena cava ligation: All is not lost

open access: yesIndian Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 2021
Inferior vena cava (IVC) injuries account for about 25%–40% of abdominal vascular injuries. Blunt vena cava injury has a lower survival rate than penetrating injury. They may present with torrential bleed.

Direct comparison of nick-joining activity of the nucleic acid ligases from bacteriophage T4 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The genome of bacteriophage T4 encodes three polynucleotide ligases, which seal the backbone of nucleic acids during infection of host bacteria. The T4Dnl (T4 DNA ligase) and two RNA ligases [T4Rnl1 (T4 RNA ligase 1) and T4Rnl2] join a diverse array of ...

Endoscopic Management of Epistaxis in Lumbini Medical College

open access: yesJournal of Lumbini Medical College, 2015
Introduction: Epistaxis is one of the commonest Ear Nose Throat (ENT) emergency. Proper guidelines for its management are lacking; on the other hand, the management is mostly done by the junior health service providers which has invited non-standardized ...

STAT3 expression is reduced in cardiac pericytes in HFpEF and its loss reduces cellular adhesion and induces pericyte senescence

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) accounts for half of the heart failure cases. It is characterised by microvascular dysfunction, associated with reduced pericyte coverage and diminished STAT3 expression in pericytes. Loss of STAT3 impairs pericyte adhesion, promotes senescence, and activates a pro‐fibrotic gene program.

Ligation of random oligomers leads to emergence of autocatalytic sequence network [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The emergence of longer information-carrying and functional nucleotide polymers from random short strands was a major stepping stone at the dawn of life. But the formation of those polymers under temperature oscillation required some form of selection. A plausible mechanism is template-based ligation where theoretical work already suggested a reduction

The influence of liver dysfunction on cyclosporine pharmacokinetics -A comparison between 70 per cent hepatectomy and complete bile duct ligation in dogs- [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The influence of experimentally induced hepatic dysfunction on the pharmacokinetics of Cyclosporine A (CsA) was determined in dogs. The pharmacokinetics of oral (PO) and intravenous (IV) CsA were studied before and after 70 per cent hepatectomy or ...

Effects of Arteriovenous Fistula Ligation on Cardiac Structure and Function in Kidney Transplant Recipients.

open access: yesCirculation, 2019
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality remain high in recipients of a kidney transplant. The persistence of a patent arteriovenous fistula (AVF) after transplantation may contribute to ongoing maladaptive cardiovascular remodeling. The ability
