INJURY TO CAROTID ARTERY AND JUGULAR VEIN, WITH LIGATION AND RECOVERY
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1923A boy, aged 12 years, entered the hospital, Aug. 6, 1922, with a wound of the neck, due to an automobile accident. Background and hypothesis Reperfusion following acute hindlimb ischaemia is mediated by both arteriogenesis (collateral growth) and angiogenesis. According to Poiseuille’s Law, the arterial ability to conduct blood is proportional to the 4th order of its diameter.

IL10 accelerates hind limb reperfusion recovery in mice after femoral artery ligation
2016Background: Arteriogenesis is the process by which a pre-existing arterio-arterial anastomosis develops into a functional collateral network following an arterial occlusion. We have shown that alternatively activated M2 macrophages are present in the perivascular bed of collateral vessels and our group[for full text, please go to the a.m. URL]

Recovery of renal function after right nephrectomy, cavectomy and left renal vein ligation.
Journal of nephrology, 2002Right nephrectomy and ligation of the left renal vein often lead to acute renal failure, but not obligatorily to renal infarction and chronic uremia, thanks to the peculiar venous supply of the left kidney. A man underwent right nephrectomy, inferior cavectomy and ligation of the left renal vein and became anuric.
