Proteolytic activity against the light-harvesting complex and the D1/D2 core proteins of Photosystem II in close association to the light-harvesting complex II trimer

open access: yesBiochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 2002
Light-harvesting complex II (LHCII) prepared from isolated thylakoids of either broken or intact chloroplasts by three independent methods, exhibits proteolytic activity against LHCII. This activity is readily detectable upon incubation of these preparations at 37 degrees C (without addition of any chemicals or prior pre-treatment), and can be ...

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Reconstitution of light-harvesting chlorophyll-protein complexes with Photosystem II complexes in soybean phosphatidylcholine liposomes Enhancement of quantum efficiency at sub-saturating light intensities in the reconstituted liposomes

open access: yes, 1984
Isolated Photosystem II (PS II) complexes and light-harvesting chlorophyll-protein complexes have been reconstituted, both separately and together, into soybean phosphatidylcholine liposomes.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

The derivation of the formyl-group oxygen of chlorophyll b in higher plants from molecular oxygen. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
The mechanism of formation of the formyl group of chlorophyll b has long been obscure but, in this paper, the origin of the 7-formyl-group oxygen of chlorophyll b in higher plants was determined by greening etiolated maize leaves, excised from dark-grown

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Study of factors controlling the photoprotection capacity of the thylakoid membrane

open access: yes, 2010
PhDPlants require light for the process of photosynthesis, but excess of light absorption can cause photooxidative damage. To avoid this damage, plants have evolved a photoprotective mechanism to dissipate excess light energy as heat in a process ...

Photosynthesis: light harvesting

open access: yes, 2023
Light harvesting is the first step of photosynthesis. It includes two physical processes: the absorption of photons by pigments associated with photosynthetic complexes and the transfer of the resulting excitation energy to the reaction centers, where it

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Models of interacting photosynthetic light harvesting complexes constructed from modified tobacco mosaic virus capsid proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Energy transfer in photosynthesis is orchestrated via dynamic networks of pigment arrays embedded within protein complexes that often span a lipid membrane.
