A Variable-Cycle Traffic Light Queue
In this paper we look at queueing phenomena occurring at a traffic light. As opposed to the well-known and well-researched Fixed-cycle Traffic Light, we consider a traffic light with variable lengths for the red and green periods. More specifically we apply a method that allows the red and green periods to be according to a stochastic distribution.

The velocity of light intensity increase modulates the photoprotective response in coastal diatoms. [PDF]
In aquatic ecosystems, the superimposition of mixing events to the light diel cycle exposes phytoplankton to changes in the velocity of light intensity increase, from diurnal variations to faster mixing-related ones.

Picosecond events in the photochemical cycle of the light-driven chloride-pump halorhodopsin [PDF]
The early events in halorhodopsin after light excitation are studied with picosecond time resolution. Absorption and fluorescence measurements show that the electronically excited state of the incorporated retinal has a lifetime of 5 ps. Within that time

The moss Bryum argenteum var. muticum Brid. is well adapted to cope with high light in continental Antarctica [PDF]
The net photosynthetic rate (NP), chlorophyll fluorescence, carotenoid content and chlorophyll content of the cosmopolitan moss Bryum argenteum were measured in the field at Botany Bay, southern Victoria Land, continental Antarctica (77°S).

Influence of Medium Frequency Light/Dark Cycles on the Cultivation of Auxenochlorella pyrenoidosa
Light (wavelength, intensity, and light/dark cycle) have been considered as one of the most important parameters for microalgae cultivation. In this paper, the effect of medium frequency intermittent light on Auxenochlorella pyrenoidosa (formerly ...

The Effect of LEDs on Biomass and Phycobiliproteins Production in Thermotolerant Oscillatoria sp.
This study evaluates the role of different LED lights (white, blue/red), intensity (µmol m−2 s−1), and photoperiod in the production of biomass and phycocyanin-C, allophycocyanin and phycoerythrin (C-PC, APC, and PE respectively) from a novel ...

Green light for the cell cycle [PDF]
In recent years, considerable progress has been made in unraveling the control mechanisms operating on the plant cell cycle and most of the key regulators have now been identified, including cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs), cyclins, CDK-inhibitory proteins, the WEE kinase and proteins of the retinoblastoma-related protein (RBR)/E2F/DP pathway.

Early picosecond events in the photo cycle of Bacteriorhodopsin [PDF]
The primary processes of the photochemical cycle of light-adapted bacteriorhodopsin (BR) were studied by various experimental techniques with a time resolution of 5 × 10-13 s. The following results were obtained.

Translation Invariance-Based Deep Learning for Rotating Machinery Diagnosis
Discriminative feature extraction is a challenge for data-driven fault diagnosis. Although deep learning algorithms can automatically learn a good set of features without manual intervention, the lack of domain knowledge greatly limits the performance ...
