Holographic light deflection

Applied Optics, 1978
An operational holographic laser light deflector is described, which is well suited for applications requiring fast constant-speed scanning, high resolution, and moderately large angles of deflection. A particularly unique application of this device as an opaque document scanner is also described.

Digital Light Deflection

Bell System Technical Journal, 1964
A digital method of deflecting a light beam using n optical modulators and n uniaxial crystals to provide 2n positions of the beam is described. The input-output relations for one special configuration are derived. Optical problems and limitations are investigated and, in particular, it is found that the upper limit to the density of positions is about

DeLLight: Deflection of Light by Light in Vacuum

2019 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe & European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO/Europe-EQEC), 2019
Nonlinear electrodynamics in vacuum remains a relatively unexplored topic, as the intensities required to reach the nonlinear regime make it difficult to test in the laboratory. There are thus several competing theories of nonlinear electrodynamics, distinct from each other in theory but not yet having been ruled out by experiment [1,2].

Light deflection in Kaluza–Klein gravity

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1995
When general relativity is extended from four to five dimensions, as in the theory of Kaluza and Klein, the relations for the classical tests are modified. The light-deflection problem shows a particularly interesting modification. We derive the general expression for light deflection by a massive body in the five-dimensional theory, and show that it ...

Multiple light deflection

1992
If the light emitted by a source is deflected by a single matter concentration in the universe, the theory for a single geometrically-thin mass distribution as developed in Chap. 5 applies. However, one can easily imagine situations where the light is deflected several times on the way from the source to the observer.

The Deflection of Light in the Sun's Gravitational Field

Science, 1932
Among the various expeditions sent out to observe the total solar eclipse of May 9, 1929, that of the Potsdam Observatory (Einstein Stiftung) seems to be the only one which obtained photographs suitable for determining the light deflection in the Sun's gravitational field.

Einstein’s Deflection of Light

1969
Einstein’s deflection of light may be considered as a particular case of the refraction field in the neighbourhood of a material body with all its consequences such as the formation of images and the modification of light intensity. The lunar eclipse theory was, therefore, for us the starting point of a general investigation of this problem [1]. It was

Equivalence principle and light deflection

Zeitschrift fr Physik, 1962
The deflection of light is discussed with regard to its significance for the structure of general relativity. It is argued that this effect is no consequence of the equivalence principle, but is a real test for general relativity.Einstein's elevator model andFock's criticism of the equivalence principle are investigated.
