A thorough treatment of the Strong Equivalence Principle is presented, demonstrating its failure in dealing with non-uniform gravitational fields. In particular, a calculation utilising the equivalence principle is shown to produce an incorrect rate of deflection of light. Optically induced light deflection

Refractive index changes are induced in real time in photosensitive materials through light beam interference (control beam). Deflection of a laser beam interacting with this phase grating is achieved when the grating parameters are modified. This is obtained by shifting the wavelength of the control beam.
