From LiDAR point clouds to 3D tree morphometrics: New approach to quantitatively evaluate tree shapes

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Tree crowns are complex, three‐dimensional structures whose morphology varies among species, individuals and environments. Although light detection and ranging (LiDAR) provides high‐resolution, single‐tree point clouds that advance species discrimination and the assessment of intraspecific variation in situ, crown shape is still commonly ...

Underwater imaging without colour distortions requires RAW capture

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Consumer cameras are not designed to be scientific instruments, yet they are increasingly used in science not just to see, but to measure. This is possible because camera sensors respond approximately linearly to the light they receive, a property that can, in principle, support quantitative measurements of colour.

Artificial Intelligence and Digital Impressions: The Positives and the Pitfalls

open access: yesAustralian Dental Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Digital impressions are now central to contemporary dental workflows, driven by advances in CAD/CAM manufacturing and intraoral scanning technologies. In parallel, rapid progress in artificial intelligence (AI)—particularly deep learning—has led to its widespread integration into digital impression systems.

Combined Approach to Locate Medieval Fortified Manor Houses in Central Moravia (the Czech Republic)

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A systematic prospection of medieval fortified manor houses (FMHs) in Central Moravia (Czech Republic) was conducted with the aim of mapping their distribution and facilitating both further scholarly research and more effective heritage protection by responsible institutions.

Lodge moraines: a common yet underreported end‐moraine type—a review

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
Lodge moraines are a distinct genetic type of end moraine formed by submarginal accretion of subglacial till; they are some of the largest end moraines in the world. Although underreported in the literature, they are of equal importance to push, dump and hummocky end moraines. End moraines are formed at glacier ice margins and show the extent of former

LGM glaciation in the northern Dinaric Mountains, Slovenia: new insights from terrestrial cosmogenic nuclide dating and Parallel Ice Sheet Model simulation

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The Dinaric Mountains are a mountain range stretching NW–SE from the Alps to the Albanides–Hellenides in central Europe. The highest parts were occupied by small ice fields and/or valley glaciers during the Quaternary cold periods, while even today some small glaciers still exist in topoclimatically favourable areas.
