Effect of Surface Texture on Light Extraction Efficiency for LEDs

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
The light extraction efficiency of an LED is dependent on its surface texture. However, the surface of the p-GaN layer is not easy to be etch with inverted hexagonal pyramid structures (IHPS) with small top widths and large depths using existing methods.

Single-step-fabricated disordered metasurfaces for enhanced light extraction from LEDs [PDF]

open access: yesLight: Science & Applications, 2021
While total internal reflection (TIR) lays the foundation for many important applications, foremost fibre optics that revolutionised information technologies, it is undesirable in some other applications such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), which are a ...

Enhancing the Light Extraction Efficiency in Micro‐Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes with Metalens

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2021
Due to the total internal reflection caused by the mismatch of the refractive indices between organic layers and oxide layers within an organic light‐emitting diode (OLED), most of the light energy is trapped inside the device; if the size of an OLED is ...

Model for Light Extraction Efficiency of MicroLEDs

open access: yes, 2023

For the first time, a semi-analytic formulation of the light extraction efficiency (LEE) of MicroLEDs is presented. The model is based on light tracing equations and delineates the contributions of reflection on the sidewalls of the MicroLEDs to enhance LEE compared to large LED.

Ultra-directional and high-efficiency µLEDs via gradient index filled micro-horn collimators [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports
Micro-LEDs (µLEDs) are poised to transform near-eye AR/VR, display, and optical communication technologies, but they are currently hindered by low light extraction efficiency and non-directional emission. Our study introduces an innovative approach using

Enhanced light extraction efficiency of OLEDs with quasiperiodic diffraction grating layer

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
We presented enhanced light extraction efficiency of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) cells with a nano-sized diffraction grating layer. Various diffraction gratings of different morphologies including linear, cubic, hexagonal and quasiperiodic patterns were fabricated by multiplexing light interference exposure on an azobenzene thin film.
