High Extraction Efficiency Light-emitting Diodes Based on Embedded Air-gap Photonic-crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This letter reports on high extraction efficiency light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on embedded two-dimensional air-gap photonic crystals (PhCs). High refractive index contrast provided by the air gaps along with high interaction of the embedded PhCs ...

Light Extraction Efficiency of GaN-Based Micro-Scale Light-Emitting Diodes Investigated Using Finite-Difference Time-Domain Simulation

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2020
We conducted a systematic investigation of the light extraction efficiency (LEE) of GaN-based vertical micro-scale light-emitting diode (μ-LED) structures using three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations. The LEE of μ

Anisotropic materials in OLEDs for high outcoupling efficiency [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We present the results of an optical study in which we evaluate the effect of anisotropic electron transport layers (ETL) and anisotropic hole transport layers (HTL) on the outcoupling efficiency of bottom emitting organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs ...

Vertically mounted InGaN-on-Sapphire light-emitting diodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
An InGaN/GaN light-emitting diode (LED) chip mounted in a vertical configuration (vmLED) is demonstrated, exhibiting significant enhancement to light extraction, compared with a LED mounted in a conventional planar geometry.

The Blandford-Znajek mechanism and emission from isolated accreting black holes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In the presence of a magnetic field, rotational energy can be extracted from black holes via the Blandford-Znajek mechanism. We use self-similar advection dominated accretion (ADAF) models to estimate the efficiency of this mechanism for black holes ...

Surface plasmon enhanced light-emitting diode [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A method for enhancing the emission properties of light-emitting diodes, by coupling to surface plasmons, is analyzed both theoretically and experimentally.

Efficiency enhancement of InGaN amber MQWs using nanopillar structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We have investigated the use of nanopillar structures on high indium content InGaN amber multiple quantum well (MQW) samples to enhance the emission efficiency. A significant emission enhancement was observed which can be attributed to the enhancement of

Efficient light extraction in subwavelength GaAs/AlGaAs nanopillars for nanoscale light-emitting devices

open access: yesOptics Express, 2020
This work reports on high extraction efficiency in subwavelength GaAs/AlGaAs semiconductor nanopillars. We achieve up to 37-fold enhancement of the photoluminescence (PL) intensity from sub-micrometer (sub-µm) pillars without requiring back reflectors, high-Q dielectric cavities, nor large 2D arrays or plasmonic effects.

Measurement of Extraction and Absorption Parameters in GaN-based Photonic-crystal Light-emitting Diodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The light extraction efficiency of photonic-crystal (PhC) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) relies on the competition between the PhC extraction and dissipation mechanisms of the guided light within the LED.

Analysis of light extraction efficiency of GaN-based light-emitting diodes

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2011
GaN-based light emitting diodes (LEDs) as one of the most important light source in next-generation solid-state lighting have been extensively studied and remarkable progress has been obtained. However, the light extraction efficiency (LEE) is not sufficient to satisfy application requirements.
