Design of a Multistable Finger Prosthesis with Programmable Metamaterials
This research article shows the development of a multistable programmble metamaterial for the use as a finger prosthesis. The material was designed on different hierarchical levels where the influence of geometrical parameters and combination of mechanical elements was explored.

Fabrication Routes for Ionic Conducting Fiber Strain Sensors
Ionic conducting fiber strain sensors (ICFSs) offer compliant, textile‐integrable sensing. Thus far, the commercialization of ICFSs has been constrained by fiber fabrication routes. This review provides a fabrication‐centric analysis of ICFSs correlating processing strategies with material properties and scalability.

HEA interlayers offer a versatile route for joining high‐performance structural materials. Their compositional and structural design regulates interfacial reactions, suppresses brittle IMCs, and improves metallurgical bonding. Sandwich interlayers further integrate defect healing with precipitation strengthening, enabling improved strength–ductility ...

FastNano Liquid: An Automated Platform for Small‐Angle X‐ray Scattering‐Based Materials Discovery
We present FastNano Liquid, an automated small‐ and wide‐angle X‐ray scattering platform for the combined synthesis and characterization of (nano)materials. The platform is coupled to varied reactor workflows for both in situ studies of reaction kinetics and ex situ screening of synthesis conditions to support machine learning‐guided exploration ...

Light Field Image Quality Assessment via the Light Field Coherence
IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2020In this paper, a novel full-reference image quality assessment (IQA) method for evaluating the quality of the distorted light field (LF) image against its reference LF image is proposed, called the log-Gabor feature-based light field coherence (LGF-LFC).

We present the light field oracle, a novel mathematical concept for the acquisition, processing and representation of light fields. We first compute a hierarchical representation from a set of sparse image samples using a combination of wavelet transform and scattered data interpolation. The light field oracle then progressively acquires image data and

Human observers are sensitive to the ‘(physical) light field’ in the sense that they have expectations of how a given object would appear if it were introduced in the scene in front of them at some arbitrary location. Thus the ‘visual light field’ is defined even in the ‘empty space’ between objects.

A number of techniques have been proposed for flying through scenes by redisplaying previously rendered or digitized views. Techniques have also been proposed for interpolating between views by warping input images, using depth information or correspondences between multiple images.

Over the last few years, virtual reality (VR) has re-emerged as a technology that is now feasible at low cost via inexpensive cellphone components. In particular, advances of high-resolution micro displays, low-latency orientation trackers, and modern GPUs facilitate extremely immersive experiences.

In contrast to traditional binocular or multi-view stereo approaches, the adequately sampled space of observations in light-field imaging allows, to obtain dense and high quality depth maps. It also extends capabilities beyond those of traditional methods.
