Vascular response to social cognitive performance measured by infrared thermography: A translational study from mouse to man

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, 2020
To assess complex social recognition in mice, we previously developed the SocioBox paradigm. Unexpectedly, 4 weeks after performing in the SocioBox, mice displayed robust social avoidance during Y‐maze sociability testing.

A Pilot Randomised Clinical Trial Comparing a Short-Term Perioperative Prophylaxis Regimen to a Long-Term Standard Protocol in Equine Colic Surgery

open access: yesAntibiotics, 2021
Background: For surgical interventions classified as clean or clean-contaminated, including laparotomy, guidelines in human and veterinary medicine recommend a short-term perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP).

Accessible STORM Imaging: An Optimized Workflow for Conventional Widefield Epifluorescence/TIRF Setups

open access: yesBio-Protocol
Stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM) is a single-molecule localization microscopy technique that enables visualization of cellular structures beyond the diffraction limit. This approach has revealed previously inaccessible ultrastructural

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

A Femtosecond Electron‐Based Versatile Microscopy for Visualizing Carrier Dynamics in Semiconductors Across Spatiotemporal and Energetic Domains

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Carrier dynamics detection in different dimensions (space, time, and energy) with high resolutions plays a pivotal role in the development of modern semiconductor devices, especially in low‐dimensional, high‐speed, and ultrasensitive devices.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Readout of an antiferromagnetic spintronics system by strong exchange coupling of Mn2Au and Permalloy

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Antiferromagnets offer faster operation speed and immunity to stray fields, however, readout of the Neel vector is difficult. Here, Bommanaboyena et al present a heterostructure of a ferromagnet and antiferromagnet, combining easy readout with the ...
