Lighting Energy Saving with Light Pipe in Farm Animal Production

open access: yesJournal of Daylighting, 2015
The Swedish animal production sector has potential for saving electric lighting of €4-9 million per year using efficient daylight utilisation. To demonstrate this, two light pipe systems, Velux® (house 1) and Solatube® (house 2), are installed in two ...

Endocytic Control of Cell‐Autonomous and Non‐Cell‐Autonomous Functions of p53

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
NUMB Ex3‐containing isoforms localize to the plasma membrane, where they recruit p53 through SNX9 and direct it to multivesicular bodies and exosomes. Exported p53 is taken up by neighboring cells and activates nuclear programs, revealing an intercellular, exosome‐based pathway that might help establish a tumor‐suppressive microenvironment.

Primary reflector for solar energy collection systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1978
A fixed, linear, ground-based primary reflector is disclosed which has an extended curved sawtooth-contoured surface covered with a metalized polymeric reflecting material. The device reflects solar energy to a movably supported collector that is kept at

Water‐Efficient Smart Drip Irrigation Enabled by a Low‐Power and High‐Efficiency Flexible Electromagnetic Actuator

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Water scarcity poses a critical threat to global food security. A low‐power, flexible electromagnetic actuator is presented for smart drip irrigation systems. The device achieves precise, wide‐range flow modulation (0.05–5.8 mL/min) in response to real‐time plant demands, reducing water consumption compared to conventional flood irrigation.

Demonstrations for Children of All Age- The Cork Canon [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
Demonstrations are one of the most useful techniques for teaching science to anyone, regardless of age. Demonstrations attract attention and normally make the observer want to learn more about what is happening. This paper reports on The Cork Cannon, one

TTNPB Promotes Human Pluripotent Stem Cell‐to‐Neural Stem Cell Transition via Modulation of Chromatin Accessibility and the S‐(5′‐adenosyl)‐L‐homocysteine/Choline Metabolic Network

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A retinoic acid receptor agonist, TTNPB, drives the efficient generation of advanced neural stem cells (ANSCs) from human pluripotent stem cells. TTNPB‐centered chromatin remodeling and metabolic reprogramming, promote neuroectoderm commitment. The resulting cells show robust neural potential and functional efficacy in a rat depression model.
