Evidence of microbial activity from a shallow water whale fall (Voghera, northern Italy) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The fossil bones, associated carbonate cements and enclosing concretion of a Miocene mysticete from inner shelf deposits (Monte Vallassa Formation, northern Italy) were analyzed for evidence of microbial activity. Optical and scanning electron microscopy,

STABILITAS FOTOOKSIDASI MINYAK GORENG SAWIT YANG DIFORTIFIKASI DENGAN MINYAK SAWIT MERAH

open access: yesJurnal Teknologi dan Industri Pangan, 2016
Deterioriation of palm oil fortified with vitamin A and provitamin A could be caused by the presence of oxygen and light exposure. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the initial peroxide value (PV) in palm oil (1.99, 3.98, and 9.95 ...

A Personalized, 3D Printed Polymeric Device for the Prevention of Post‐Myocardial Infarction Cardiac Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Myocardial infarction often leads to pathological remodelling and ventricular dilatation, key features of HFrEF. This study introduces a personalized, 3D‐printed cardiac restraint device (CARD) printed using rationally designed inks displaying the requested printability and mechanical properties.

Phytoplankton Distribution in Relation to Environmental Drivers on the North West European Shelf Sea.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The edge of the North West European Shelf (NWES) is characterised by a steep continental slope and a northward flowing slope current. These topographic/hydrographic features separate oceanic water and shelf water masses hence potentially separate ...

Pbx loss in cranial neural crest, unlike in epithelium, results in cleft palate only and a broader midface. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Orofacial clefting represents the most common craniofacial birth defect. Cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) is genetically distinct from cleft palate only (CPO).

Medical Fabrics with Non‐Antibiotic, Supramolecular Antimicrobial Coatings: A Preventive Approach to Combat Biofilm Formation and Bacterial Dissemination

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The study presents an antibiotic‐free strategy using medical fabrics coated with supramolecular assemblies of polyarginine and hyaluronic acid. These coatings showed strong antimicrobial and anti‐biofilm activity in vitro and in vivo, achieving major bacterial load reductions, including against MRSA.

Statistical-based sensitivity analysis and multi-objective optimizations as a design approach to window-integrated light-shelves based on daylight performance

open access: yesEnergy Nexus
This paper aims to address the deficiency of facade daylighting design techniques that balanced daylight provision and multi-criteria daylighting requirements by incorporating the window and light-shelf as two independent variables applied to a case ...

Remote sensing of coccolithophore blooms in selected oceanic regions using the PhytoDOAS method applied to hyper-spectral satellite data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this study temporal variations of coccolithophore blooms are investigated using satellite data. Eight years (from 2003 to 2010) of data of SCIAMACHY, a hyper-spectral satellite sensor on-board ENVISAT, were processed by the PhytoDOAS method to monitor

Oxygen and ROS Delivery for Infected Wound Healing and Future Prospects

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bacterial infection is a major driver of delayed wound healing and postsurgical readmissions; with rising antibiotic resistance, solid peroxide–releasing biomaterials offer sustained delivery of ROS/O2 for antimicrobial control and microenvironmental modulation.
