Effect of light and water on the degradation of asphalt

open access: yes, 1959
Coatings prepared from two blown petroleum asphalts in a thickness range of 0.002 to 0.04 inches were exposed to accelerated test conditions and outdoors. When exposed to light only, a surface film, insoluble in common asphalt solvents, was formed.

Termite Detection Techniques in Embankment Maintenance: Methods and Trends

open access: yesSensors
Termites pose significant threats to the structural integrity of embankments due to their nesting and tunneling behavior, which leads to internal voids, water leakage, or even dam failure.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Phase Saturation Control on Vorticity Enhances Mixing in Porous Media

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Mixing controls the fate of any solute entering porous media. Hence, an understanding of the involved processes is essential for assessing subsurface contamination and planning for its protection.

Effects of antidepressant exposures on a stream detrital food chain: Microbial decomposers and invertebrate detritivores

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Antidepressants are often found in freshwater ecosystems, yet their potential impacts on ecological processes and species interactions remain poorly understood.

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

The Penetration of Ultraviolet Light into Pure Water and Sea Water*

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of America, 1928
With a quartz spectrograph, sodium hydride quartz photoelectric cell and quadrant electrometer, measurements were made in the ultraviolet spectrum region λ4000 to 2500A of the light absorption coefficients of pure water and sea water and of the molecular absorption coefficients of aqueous solutions of the principle salts in the sea, namely, NaCl, KCl ...

Raman‐based label‐free microscopic analysis of the pancreas in living zebrafish larvae

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Forward stimulated Raman scattering (F‐SRS) and epi coherent anti‐Stokes Raman scattering (E‐CARS) allow label‐free discrimination of distinct subcellular structures in the pancreas of living zebrafish larvae. Given the straightforward applicability, we anticipate broad implementation of Raman microscopy in other organs and across various biomedical ...
