Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Study on heat transfer behavior and process optimization in differential phase electromagnetic DC casting of extra-large AZ31B alloy flat ingot: numerical simulation and experimental verification

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Based on the heat transfer analysis in the primary cooling region of large-size magnesium alloy flat ingot Direct-chill (DC) casting, a novel crystallizer structure for flat ingot electromagnetic DC casting was put forward, in which the primary cooling ...

On the Light-Weight Concrete Used Artifiial Light-Weight Aggregate

open access: yesjournal of the Japan Society for Testing Materials, 1962
Recently, with the tendency to lighten structures coming out, some artificial light-weight aggregates having excellent qualities suitable for high strength structural use have come to be produced for trial. We tested these artificial light-weight aggregates and light-weight concrete using these aggregates, and further, checked up the effects of these ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Probing deformation mechanisms of CoCrFeNiMn0.75Cu0.25 highentropy alloy after thermo-mechanical treatment using in situ EBSD investigation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
In this study, the CoCrFeNiMn0.75Cu0.25 high-entropy alloy (HEA) was systematically investigated to elucidate the effects of different annealing temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the face-centered cubic (fcc) structural ...

Evading strength-corrosion tradeoff in Mg alloys via dense ultrafine twins

open access: yesNature Communications, 2021
Conventional ultrafine grains can generate high-strength Mg alloys, but non-equilibrium grain boundaries deteriorates their corrosion resistance. Here, the authors present ultrafine grained Mg alloys with dense twins that display high strength and ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Influence of different rolling processes on microstructure, texture and anisotropy of the Al–Cu–Li alloy

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Al–Cu–Li alloys have shown great potential for aerospace application due to their good combination of high strength and low density, but their high planar anisotropy have always hindered their application.

Light-weight Locks

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, we propose a new approach to building synchronization primitives, dubbed "lwlocks" (short for light-weight locks). The primitives are optimized for small memory footprint while maintaining efficient performance in low contention scenarios.
