Retrospective Observation of Ball Lightning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Ball lightning is a very rarely observed phenomenon that makes it extremely difficult to characterize scientifically. Eye-witness accounts of ball lightning that describe many features in common have been variously recorded for centuries. This note is an account of my observation of ball lightning almost five decades ago.

F‐actin in the cuticular plate and junctions of auditory hair cells is regulated by ADF and cofilin to allow for normal stereocilia bundle patterning and maintenance

open access: yesCytoskeleton, EarlyView.
Abstract Auditory hair cells, which convert sound‐induced vibrations in the inner ear into neural signals, depend on multiple actin populations for normal function. Stereocilia are mechanosensory protrusions formed around a core of linear, crosslinked F‐actin.

Rousseau and Emile: Learning language and teaching language

open access: yesJournal of Philosophy of Education, Volume 56, Issue 6, Page 925-938, December 2022., 2022
Abstract In Emile, Rousseau advances significant ideas about language, language learning and teaching: He posits a universal natural language that develops as the child matures; focuses on ‘private’ words invented by children, on the challenge facing children in their understanding of exceptions to general rules of the mother tongue and on recommended ...

Modeling Copper Cables and Connectors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
High-speed data busses constructed from copper components are both difficult to model and important to accurately simulate. Using analytic signal theory and an extension of the skin effect for non-uniform conductivity, experimental data taken from IEEE 1394-1995 cables and connectors is used to predict the transfer function of a 4.5 meter cable with ...

Knowing receipt: continuing trusts and conscionability Byers v Saudi National Bank

open access: yesThe Modern Law Review, Volume 86, Issue 1, Page 276-288, January 2023., 2023
In Byers v Saudi National Bank [2022] EWCA Civ 43 the Court of Appeal examined a seemingly straightforward question: where rights are dissipated in breach of trust, is it a necessary condition of the recipient being liable for ‘knowing receipt’ that the dissipation did not extinguish the beneficiary's rights?

Landscape transcriptomics as a tool for addressing global change effects across diverse species

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Landscape transcriptomics is an emerging field studying how genome‐wide expression patterns reflect dynamic landscape‐scale environmental drivers, including habitat, weather, climate, and contaminants, and the subsequent effects on organismal function. This field is benefitting from advancing and increasingly accessible molecular technologies,

Connectors of the Ohno relation for parametrized multiple zeta series [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
The Ohno relation is a well known relation in the theory of multiple zeta values. Recently, Seki and Yamamoto introduced a connector method and gave its succinct proof. On the other hand, Igarashi obtained the generalization of the Ohno relation for parametrized multiple zeta series. In this paper, we give new connectors to simplify his proof.
