Colombian Total Lightning Detection Network and early detection of failure risk for power systems [PDF]
This paper presents the deployment of a new total lightning detection network in Colombia. Historic data from 2011 to 2012 are used to reevaluate the lightning parameters such as ground flash density, multiplicity, polarity and others.

ABSTRACT To effectively suppress transient overvoltages in HVDC systems, the design and experimental validation of a multi‐module series controllable arrester are presented. The voltage‐limiting performance, series voltage equalisation capability, and robustness under fault conditions in high‐voltage scenarios require further research.

PowerGPT‐R1: Vision‐Language Reinforcement Fine‐Tuning With Verifiable Reward for Power Inspection
ABSTRACT Vision‐driven intelligent power inspection systems have long faced the challenge of scarce high‐quality datasets in specialised domains, leading to limited performance of traditional deep learning methods (e.g., Faster‐RCNN) in few‐shot learning scenarios. Recent breakthroughs in language models, particularly the open‐source DeepSeek‐R1 model,

ABSTRACT High voltage equipment, as a core component of power systems, plays an indispensable role in ensuring the reliability of power supply through its safe and stable operation. Traditional visual defect detection for high voltage equipment, however, often relies on manual inspection and experience‐based judgement, which struggles to meet the ...

Detection of lightning in Saturn's Northern Hemisphere
During Cassini flyby of Saturn at a radial distance 6.18R_s (Saturn Radius), a signal was detected from about 200 to 430 Hz that had the proper dispersion characteristics to be a whistler. The frequency-time dispersion of the whistler was found to be 81 Hz1/2s.

FDTD simulations of lightning strikes to the Gaisberg Tower: Comparison with ALDIS sensor measurements and evaluation of the Gaisberg radiation pattern [PDF]
In this paper, lightning electromagnetic (EM) fields radiated by a lightning strike to the Gaisberg Tower in Salzburg, Austria, and propagating over irregular terrain are calculated using a 3D finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. With topographic
