Characteristics of Impulsive Currents Superimposing on Continuous/Continuing Current of Rocket-Triggered Lightning

IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2020
Characteristics and mechanism of initial continuous current (ICC) pulses and M components in rocket-triggered lightning were investigated in detailed. The geometric mean current peak, risetime from 10% to 90% peak, half-peak width, and charge transfer of M components were 400 A, 207 μs, 267 μs, and 0.19 C, respectively, exhibiting more pronounced ...

Impulse current testing system for simulating lightning effect

2014 International Conference on Audio, Language and Image Processing, 2014
This paper introduced the impulse current testing system for simulating lightning effects. The shield method to suppress the interference was addressed in this paper. After compared with three filter methods, it was verified that the wavelet transform is most suitable for measuring the impulse by using the digital filter technology to get the actual ...

Behaviour Of A Grounding System Under Impulse Lightning Current

Proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Optimization of Electrical and Electronic Equipments, 2005
This paper deals with the behaviour of a grounding system, under impulse lightning current. The authors have made a large number of experiments in the High Voltage Laboratory of N.T.U.A. and the relevant experimental results were found to agree favorably with those obtained theoretically by using the Electromagnetic Transient Analysis Program (EMTP ...

Effects of Soil Ionization and Lightning Impulse Corona on Lightning Current Strike

2020
With the new structural changes of power system that has emerged in recent years, which makes manufacturing units transmit more and more electrical power from the transmission lines, it is expected that a wider voltage collapse in the power systems happens.

Transient response of grounding systems under impulse lightning current

2016 Electric Power Quality and Supply Reliability (PQ), 2016
Grounding systems are considered as an essential part of power systems since they are designed to protect them against fault currents according to some safety and power quality standards. When lightning strikes a substation or a transmission tower near the substation, high current generated by the stroke would flow into the grounding system of the ...

Impulsive currents and voltages induced into loops due to nearby lightning

2011 International Symposium on Lightning Protection, 2011
This paper presents the effect of considering propagation delays and displacement currents in the calculation of currents and voltages induced into loops due to nearby lightning flashes. Results from numerical calculation, based on a more complete electromagnetic formulation (Method of Moments — MoM) are compared with results from a quasi-stationary ...

Design and simulation of impulse current circuit based on the standard lightning currents

2009 5th Asia-Pacific Conference on Environmental Electromagnetics, 2009
From the linear RLC circuit of impulse current generator, the relations between the parameters T 1 , T 2 , i m of pulsed current wave and damping coefficient parameters α of the circuit ware studies in this paper. The currents parameters of impulse current generator which can generate the standard lightning currents (100kA, 8/20µs and 50kA, 10/350µs ...

Calculation of the voltage on earth impedance caused by lightning impulse current

Archiv für Elektrotechnik, 1988
In case of lightning stroke into a tower the impulse current behaviour of the ground is of great importance. A simplified model for estimation the lightning performance of grounding electrodes has been evaluated. Based on field theory the inductive character of the earthing impedance is explained.

Current Impulses in the Lightning Protection System of a Test House in Poland

IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2015
The full scale test house was equipped with the lightning protection system and connected to the 15 kV/400 V transformer station. The simulated stroke current was injected into the installation with a current surge generator. Distribution of current in the lightning protection system and connected power supply installation is presented.
