Evaluation of Lightning Location accuracy of JLDN with a lightning video camera system
2010 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatibility, 2010This paper discusses evaluation of Lightning Location accuracy of Japan Lightning Detection Network (JLDN). JLDN has observed lightning activities since 1998. It has been said that the nominal location accuracy of JLDN is less than 500 meters in most area of Japan. But, the actual location accuracy of JLDN has not been evaluated.

Lightning strike location for overhead lines
IEE Half Day Colloquium on Operational Monitoring of Distribution and Transmission Systems, 1997The author has developed a lightning strike location system which uses radio direction finding techniques to locate lightning strikes as they occur on overhead power lines. The system has been operated as a commercial service since 1989, providing both online information and historical information on lightning activity in the UK and Ireland.

Detection and Location of Intracloud Lightning Discharges
1991Since 1978, the ONERA is involved in basic studies related to the lightning/aircraft interaction problems. One of the first aspect of this research concerns the understanding of the lightning discharge properties and especially the mechanisms associated with the discharges which occurs in altitude.

In this paper, we primarily discuss how the lightning locating system (LLS) working. We present the method of lightning risk assessment and the process of the data received from the LLS sensors. Also discussed will be the practical applications in lightning risk assessment.

Statistical patterns in the location of natural lightning
2013Lightning discharges are nature’s way of neutralizing the electrical buildup in thunderclouds. Thus, if an individual discharge destroys a substantial fraction of the cloud charge, the probability of a subsequent ?ash is reduced until the cloud charge separation rebuilds.
