Simulation analysis on lightning overvoltage of 500kV substation

IET Conference Proceedings, 2021
500kV Nanning substation is the pivot of the power transmission from west to East.In the past 10 years, Nanning substation has been expanded and operation mode has changed. It will have a negative impact on the operation of the local power grid when lightning damage accident happened in Nanning substation.

Lightning Overvoltages in Low-Voltage Circuit for Various Lightning Striking Points

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2010
Lightning overvoltages in low-voltage circuits in houses originating from a distribution line or an antenna have been actively studied. However, the mechanism by which damage is caused to home appliances due to a lightning strike to the ground near the house is still unclear.

Research on Lightning Overvoltage in Building Electrical Engineering

2021 4th International Conference on Advanced Electronic Materials, Computers and Software Engineering (AEMCSE), 2021
With the continuous development of the modern construction industry, electrical installation occupies an extremely important position in the construction process of modern construction projects, and has a great impact on the normal operation of the project itself. In actual construction, relevant units and personnel need to strengthen the attention and

Analysis of Lightning Overvoltages on Overhead Hybrid Lines

2022 36th International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2022
This paper analyzes the overvoltages associated with direct strokes to a hybrid overhead line (138 kV and 13.8 kV circuits sharing the same structures). The voltages are calculated using the EMTP-RV, and their dependence on parameters such as the stroke current front time, soil resistivity, and impedance of the grounding system is discussed.

Modeling of Nonlinear Elements during Lightning Overvoltage Simulations

2008 International Conference on High Voltage Engineering and Application, 2008
The paper presents some problems of lightning overvoltage modeling in transmission lines with nonlinear elements. The presented results were obtained mostly for fast front transients of subsequent lightning return stroke currents. The effectiveness of numerical algorithms of nonlinear models and possibilities of their development for such transients ...

Overvoltages in photovoltaic systems induced by lightning strikes

2012 International Conference on Lightning Protection (ICLP), 2012
The high number of photovoltaic systems raises questions regarding their operational security even under extremely weather conditions like thunderstorms. Therefore a simplified model of a photovoltaic system, consisting of typical arrangement of solar-panels, was investigated.

Lightning induced overvoltages: effects on consumer service entrance

2003 IEEE Bologna Power Tech Conference Proceedings,, 2004
This work presents evaluations concerning lightning induced overvoltages on low voltage distribution lines. The results were obtained by simulation, employing an elaborated electromagnetic model. Sensitivity analyses were developed in order to relate the effect of physical characteristics of line to the level of induced overvoltage at consumer service ...

Lightning overvoltages on complex low-voltage distribution networks

Electric Power Systems Research, 2012
Abstract This paper presents a theoretical investigation on lightning overvoltages on low-voltage (LV) networks installed in urban areas. The combined effect of lightning-induced voltages and transferred lightning surges through distribution transformers is taken into account.

Overvoltage investigation of wind farm under lightning strokes

IET Conference on Renewable Power Generation (RPG 2011), 2011
Wind turbine generators are frequently subjected to lightning due to their locations and height. So, the performance of wind farm under such events is worthy investigated. This paper studies the surge propagation through wind farm when a lightning hits blade of one of the wind turbines.

Lightning and overvoltage protection of wind power farms

2011 International Symposium on Lightning Protection, 2011
Wind power farms are prone to lightning due to their height, especially when installed off-shore. Very different voltage stresses are expected compared to three phase power systems. Test standards, technical specifications and application principles have been developed only recently on CENELEC level.
