The synthesis and analysis of advanced lignin model polymers [PDF]
This work was funded by the EP/J018139/1, EP/K00445X/1 grants and an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship. If the lignin-first biorefinery concept becomes reality, high quality lignins close in structure to native lignins will become available in large ...

This record contains a research manuscript developed within the framework of a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship project focused on the production and engineering of ligninolytic peroxidases for sustainable lignin valorization. Lignin is an abundant yet underutilized component of lignocellulosic biomass, and its efficient conversion ...

Uptake, metabolism, and bioremediation of neonicotinoid insecticides in soil–plant systems: A review
This review summarizes the uptake and metabolic transformation of neonicotinoid insecticides in plants, showing that some metabolites exhibit higher toxicity. We also critically assess promising bioremediation strategies using microbes and plant–microbe interactions to reduce residue contamination.

Biocatalytic valorisation of lignin via genetic or chemical intervention of bacterial aromatic degradation pathways [PDF]
Global dependence on fossil fuels is not only finite, but also environmentally unsound. A move from petroleum-based chemicals to an alternative based on renewable sources such as agricultural lignocellulosic waste materials could provide significant ...

FTIR-ATR-based prediction and modelling of lignin and energy contents reveals independent intra-specific variation of these traits in bioenergy poplar [PDF]
Background: there is an increasing demand for renewable resources to replace fossil fuels. However, different applications such as the production of secondary biofuels or combustion for energy production require different wood properties. Therefore, high-

The Role of Ligninolytic Enzymes in Sustainable Agriculture: Applications and Challenges
The most important ligninolytic enzymes in lignin degradation include laccases and peroxidases (lignin peroxidase, manganese peroxidase, versatile peroxidase). White-rot fungi (e.g., Cerrena sp., Phlebia sp.

Gene turnover in the common ancestor of all C4 grasses
Understanding how plants evolve more efficient photosynthesis is important in a warming world where improving crop productivity and resilience is a global priority. By generating the first reference genomes for an early‐diverging group of grasses called the Aristidoideae, we were able to reconstruct the genetic makeup of the last common ancestor of all
