Distinct decomposition dynamics of heterogeneous carbon components in cultivated agricultural soils controlled by flexible microbial substrate utilization strategy

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture
Improving soil organic matter (SOM) maintenance is crucial for terrestrial carbon (C) sequestration and ecosystem functioning. Conservation tillage favors SOM pool buildup; however, it remains unclear how the decomposition of heterogeneous components is ...

Coupled Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production With Selective Biomass Valorization via Active Sites Construction and Electron Transport Channels Engineering

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
A ternary CdS/1T‐WS2/CNTs heterojunction is in‐situ constructed via hydrothermal method, which is used for photocatalytic biomass reforming (biomass‐derived alcohols, lignin). It exhibits outstanding performance: H2 production rate of 26.17 mmol/g/h for benzyl alcohol (BA), benzaldehyde (BD) generation rate of 8.29 mmol/g/h, 90.06% BD selectivity, 100%

Differential Soil Organic Carbon Accumulation Patterns Following Cropland-to-Grassland Conversion in Non-Saline and Saline–Alkali Soils

open access: yesAgriculture
Agricultural expansion and intensification generally lead to a depletion in soil organic carbon (SOC). While converting cropland to grassland is a recognized strategy for SOC accumulation, the patterns of SOC accumulation under different grassland types ...

Reaction of Lignin with Phenol Sulfonic Acids

open access: yesThe Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, Japan, 1960

Estimation of Free Phenolic Groups in Lignin

open access: yesCommunications, Faculty Of Science, University of Ankara Series B Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, 1969
A method has been developed for the determination of free phenolic groups in softwood lignin. It is based on the colour reaction occurring between 1-nitroso 2-naphthol and eugenol. The colour reaction of l-nitroso-2—naphthol with a variety of substances containing one or two guaiacyl nuclei (representing probable structural prmcipales of lignin) has ...

Mass, inverse of mass, uncertainty in inverse of mass, F14C value and uncertainty in F14C value of standard compounds used for 14C blank assessment in compound-specific radiocarbon analysis of lipid biomarkers and lignin phenols

open access: yes, 2020
Compound-specific radiocarbon dating often requires working with small samples of < 100 µg carbon (µgC). This makes the radiocarbon dates of biomarker compounds very sensitive to biases caused by extraneous carbon of unknown composition, a procedural ...

Mechanistic Insights Into Sustainable Catalytic Pyrolysis of Biomass‐Derived Ferulic Acid: The Role of Alumina Regeneration

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Surface‐bound ferulate phenolate complexes undergo styrene‐like polymerization on alumina, yielding a polymeric carbonaceous layer that progressively transforms into polyaromatic carbon domains with concomitant release of aromatic products, while parallel surface‐assisted decarboxylation produces 4‐vinylguaiacol. ABSTRACT A fundamental understanding of
