Lignin phenols derivatives in lichens

Doklady Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2015
Lignin monophenols have been measured in the cupric oxide oxidation products from lichens of different systematic groups. It is shown for the first time that syringyl structures in most lichens strongly dominate over vanillyl and p-hydroxyl ones (S/V 7-583, S/P 3-30).

Phenols from Lignin

Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2008
AbstractLignin accounts for approximately 25–35 % of the organic matrix of wood and lignocellulosic biomass in itself is the most abundant renewable material on the planet. It has long been recognized as a potential feedstock for producing chemicals, fuels, and materials.

Lignin and Mn Peroxidase-Catalyzed Oxidation of Phenolic Lignin Oligomers

Biochemistry, 1999
The oxidation of phenolic oligomers by lignin and manganese peroxidases was studied by transient-state kinetic methods. The reactivity of peroxidase intermediates compound I and compound II was studied with the phenol guaiacol along with a beta-O-4 phenolic dimer, trimer, and tetramer.

A Comparison of Monomeric Phenols Produced from Lignin by Fast Pyrolysis and Hydrothermal Conversions

open access: yesInternational Journal of Chemical Reactor Engineering, 2013
Lignin, a by-product in biorefining industries such as lignocellulose-to-ethanol and paper-making processes, is a promising renewable source for value-added phenolic chemicals.

Phenolic acids and lignins in the lycopodiales

Phytochemistry, 1965
Abstract Twenty-one species and varieties of Lycopodium have been examined for phenolic acids and for phenolic aldehydes, ketones and acids obtained on ethanolysis or alkaline oxidation of their extracted wood-meals. p-Hydroxybenzoic, vanillic, p-coumaric and ferulic acids were identified in phenolic acid fractions and p-hydroxybenzaldehyde, vanillin,

Depolymerization and Activation of Alkali Lignin by Solid Acid-Catalyzed Phenolation for Preparation of Lignin-Based Phenolic Foams

Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2020
This study demonstrated successful preparation of high lignin-based phenolic foam (LPF). Alkali lignin (AL) was first activated via depolymerization by a solid acid catalyzed phenolation process.

STUDIES ON LIGNIN AND RELATED COMPOUNDS: XV. PHENOL GLYCOL LIGNIN

Canadian Journal of Research, 1935
Phenol condensation products of glycol lignin, of a premethylated and a fully methylated glycol lignin have been prepared. In each case it has been found that, on the basis of the five methoxyl groups present in the original glycol lignin, three molecules of phenol react with one lignin unit by nuclear condensation, and when the product is worked up ...

Kraft lignin in phenol formaldehyde resin. Part 1. Partial replacement of phenol by kraft lignin in phenol formaldehyde adhesives for plywood

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 1998
The objective of this study was to investigate the potential for partially replacing phenol with kraft lignin in the phenol formaldehyde (PF) resin designed for application as an adhesive in the production of plywood. The kraft lignin, considered to be an environmentally friendly alternative to phenol, was precipitated from black liquor recovered from ...

Phenol derivatives of lignins.

1934
The phenol condensation products of the "native" lignin found in spruce wood and of lignin isolated by the Freudenberg method have been prepared and their derivatives studied. When wood is extracted with phenol in the presence of hydrochloric acid as catalyst, two chemically different phenol lignins, in approximately equal amounts, are formed.

Preparation and Characterization of Lignin-Phenolic Foam

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
In this paper, lignin could partly replaced phenol to prepare lignin-phenolic(LPF) foam. The effects of amount of lignin on mechanical properties, thermal stability, fire-retardant and micro-structure of LPF foam. The results indicated that the addition of lignin decreased the brittleness and flexibility of foam, and the foam hole became larger in ...
