On the Carbonisation of Lignite
乾溜爐の設計に先立ち平井炭礦の亜炭について二三の實驗室實驗を行い, 次いで内熱式の、新乾溜爐を設計建設した。此の爐は周に設けられた爐で作られた燃燒ガスを壓入して加熱用に用いる方式をとり, 此のガスの顯熱とガス中に7~8%含まれる酸素によるチヤプの一部の燃燒熱が加熱用の熱源として用いられる。操業の結果によると此の方式で膝乾溜が均一匠行えない憾があり, 運韓初期を除く六部分の間ガスの壓入を停止して自燃により乾溜する方法をも試みた。此の方式では前者に比べて製品の品質がよくなるという利點があるが, 爐の處理能力が低下するという缺點をも有する。
