On the definition of likelihood function
We discuss a general definition of likelihood function in terms of Radon-Nikodým derivatives. The definition is validated by the Likelihood Principle once we establish a result regarding the proportionality of likelihood functions under different dominating measures.

Likelihood function for a simple cardioid sonobuoy [PDF]
Likelihood Function for a Simple Cardioid Sonobuoy Andrew R. Runnalls, University of Kent Published in IEE Proceedings Radar, Sonar and Navigation 153 [2006] pp. 417--26 ABSTRACT This paper considers the common sonobuoy configuration comprising two horizontal dipoles mounted orthogonally together with an omnidirectional sensor.

Restricted Likelihood Ratio Testing in Linear Mixed Models with General Error Covariance Structure [PDF]
We consider the problem of testing for zero variance components in linear mixed models with correlated or heteroscedastic errors. In the case of independent and identically distributed errors, a valid test exists, which is based on the exact finite ...

ABSTRACT Purpose Next‐generation sequencing (NGS) has emerged as a promising approach to improve diagnostic accuracy, but its feasibility in low‐ and middle‐income countries remains unknown. This study characterized the diagnostic landscape and assessed organizational readiness for NGS implementation at two childhood cancer treatment centers in Accra ...

On Maximum Likelihood Estimation of the Markov Process [PDF]
The maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters of the stationary Gaussian Markov process are obtained. The likelihood function of the observations is derived.

CMB likelihood functions for beginners and experts [PDF]
Although the broad outlines of the appropriate pipeline for cosmological likelihood analysis with CMB data has been known for several years, only recently have we had to contend with the full, large-scale, computationally challenging problem involving both highly-correlated noise and extremely large datasets ($N > 1000$). In this talk we concentrate

Maximum kernel likelihood estimation [PDF]
We introduce an estimator for the population mean based on maximizing likelihoods formed by parameterizing a kernel density estimate. Due to these origins, we have dubbed the estimator the maximum kernel likelihood estimate (mkle). A speedy computational
