On the importance of factorization for fast binned likelihood inference [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Likelihood-based inference, central in modern particle physics data analysis requires the extensive evaluation of a likelihood function that depends on set of parameters defined by the statistical model under consideration. If an analytical expression for the likelihood can be defined from first principles the procedure is computationally ...

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Simultaneous Testing of Mean and Variance Structures in Nonlinear Time Series Models [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper proposes a nonparametric simultaneous test for parametric specification of the conditional mean and variance functions in a time series regression model. The test is based on an empirical likelihood (EL) statistic that measures the goodness of

Addressing persistent challenges in digital image analysis of cancer tissue: resources developed from a hackathon

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Large multidimensional digital images of cancer tissue are becoming prolific, but many challenges exist to automatically extract relevant information from them using computational tools. We describe publicly available resources that have been developed jointly by expert and non‐expert computational biologists working together during a virtual hackathon

Semiparametric Estimation and Inference in Multinomial Choice Models [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose of this paper is to incorporate semiparametric alternatives to maximum likelihood estimation and inference in the context of unordered multinomial response data when in practice there is often insufficient information to specify the ...

Estimation of the Reliability Function of the Generalized Rayleigh Distribution under Progressive First-Failure Censoring Model

open access: yesAxioms
This study investigates the statistical inference of the parameters, reliability function, and hazard function of the generalized Rayleigh distribution under progressive first-failure censoring samples, considering factors such as long product lifetime ...

Detection rate for ESR1 mutations is higher in circulating‐tumor‐cell‐derived genomic DNA than in paired plasma cell‐free DNA samples as revealed by ddPCR

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Analysis of ESR1 mutations in plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) is highly important for the selection of treatment in patients with breast cancer. Using multiplex‐ddPCR and identical blood draws, we investigated whether circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and cfDNA provide similar or complementary information for ESR1 mutations.
