Temporal changes of geochemistry and microbial community in low and intermediate level waste (LILW) repository, South Korea

Annals of Nuclear Energy, 2019
Abstract Microbes play a major role in affecting the radioactive wastes disposed of in underground wastes repositories. In particular, low- and intermediate-level waste (LILW) contains biodegradable constituents that can affect stability and mobility of radionuclides by the changes of geochemical conditions due to microbial activity.

A Constitutive Law of Salt Concrete Used for Closure of an LILW-Repository

9th ASME International Conference on Radioactive Waste Management and Environmental Remediation: Volumes 1, 2, and 3, 2003
The Repository of LILW Radioactive Waste Morsleben (ERAM) is located in the Federal State Saxony Anhalt, Germany. After an operational phase of about 20 years it is now under licensing for closure. As the repository was erected in a former salt mine, there exists a void volume of approx. 6 million m3.

Geological Criteria for Site Selection of an LILW Radioactive Waste Repository in the Philippines

Volume 1: Low/Intermediate-Level Radioactive Waste Management; Spent Fuel, Fissile Material, Transuranic and High-Level Radioactive Waste Management, 2013
In the selection of sites for disposal facilities involving low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW), International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) recommendations require that “the region in which the site is located shall be such that significant tectonic and surface processes are not expected to occur with an intensity that would compromise ...

Simulation of Radionuclide Release and Subsurface Transport for LILW New Romanian Repository

Volume 2: Mgmt. Low/Interm. Level Waste; Spent Fuel; Economics/Analyses for Waste Mgmt.; Radiological Characterization/Application Release Criteria; Panel Sessions; Solid Waste Reduction/Treatment; Current Activities in Central/Eastern Europe; Environmental Remediation Technology; LL/ILW; HLW/Spent Fuel; Chernobyl; D&D Waste; Performance Assessment; MOX and Spent UOX; D&D Nuclear Reactors; Decommissioning of Other Nuclear Facilities, 2001
Abstract This paper presents the main stages covered in development of the safety assessment methodology for near surface Romanian repository. It also describes the modeling approaches and assumptions used in source term modeling as well as the radionuclides transport through the unsaturated and saturated zones.

Advancing the Modelling Environment for the Safety Assessment of the Swedish LILW Repository at Forsmark

MRS Proceedings, 2015
ABSTRACTAn extension of the Swedish final repository for short-lived radioactive waste (SFR) is planned and a safety assessment has been performed as part of the licensing process. Within this work, steps have been taken to advance the modelling environment to better integrate its individual parts.

Radiological Impact of Co-Location of the VLLW and LILW Repository at Mochovce Site

ASME 2011 14th International Conference on Environmental Remediation and Radioactive Waste Management, Parts A and B, 2011
JAVYS, the Slovak Nuclear Decommissioning Company, the owner and operator of National Radioactive Waste Repository (NRR) at Mochovce, is planning the enlargement of the existing NRR. The enlargement consists of the construction of new structures (double rows) like the ones existing for Low and Intermediate Level Waste (LILW) and of a new facility for ...

Development of PA/SA for LILW Repository in Slovenia Through the IAEA Cooperation

9th ASME International Conference on Radioactive Waste Management and Environmental Remediation: Volumes 1, 2, and 3, 2003
ARAO is the Slovenian public agency responsible for the disposal of radioactive waste. Presently its most important mission is the siting of a repository for low and intermediate level waste (LILW) in Slovenia. Although a location for a repository has no yet been selected, important preliminary activities are ongoing.

Modelling Approach to LILW-SL Repository Safety Evaluation for Different Waste Packing Options

11th International Conference on Environmental Remediation and Radioactive Waste Management, Parts A and B, 2007
The key objective of the work described here was to support the identification of a preferred disposal concept and packaging option for low and short-lived intermediate level waste (LILW-SL). The emphasis of the assessment, conducted on behalf of the Slovenian radioactive waste management agency (ARAO), was the consideration of several waste treatment ...
