Three-dimension-printed custom-made prosthetic reconstructions: from revision surgery to oncologic reconstructions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background The use of custom-made 3D-printed prostheses for reconstruction of severe bone defects in selected cases is increasing. The aims of this study were to evaluate (1) the feasibility of surgical reconstruction with these prostheses in oncologic ...

Functional Outcome After Successful Internal Fixation Versus Salvage Arthroplasty of Patients With a Femoral Neck Fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Objectives: To determine patient independency, health-related and disease-specific quality of life (QOL), gait pattern, and muscle strength in patients after salvage arthroplasty for failed internal fixation of a femoral neck fracture.

Myeloid p38 activation maintains macrophage–liver crosstalk and BAT thermogenesis through IL‐12–FGF21 axis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Physiological activation of myeloid p38 controls macrophage IL‐12 production and crosstalk to the liver by modulating hepatic FGF21, and subsequently, brown adipose tissue thermogenesis during obesity Abstract Obesity features excessive fat accumulation in several body tissues and induces a state of chronic low‐grade inflammation that contributes to ...

Peripheral Vascular Trauma among Vascular Surgery Cases Operated in a Tertiary Care Hospital: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2022
Introduction: Peripheral vascular trauma can result in limb or life-threatening injuries. Early surgical intervention leads to a better outcome. Diagnosis is made clinically, by non-invasive and invasive imaging modalities.

How to salvage a salvage endoprosthesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Custom-made endoprostheses can be linked to existing well-fixed implants in the treatment of complex periprosthetic femoral fractures. By adopting this salvage approach, secure implants can be retained in favour of patients undergoing more tissue ...

Limb salvage surgery

open access: yesIndian Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2013
The threat of lower limb loss is seen commonly in severe crush injury, cancer ablation, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease and neuropathy. The primary goal of limb salvage is to restore and maintain stability and ambulation. Reconstructive strategies differ in each condition such as: Meticulous debridement and early coverage in trauma, replacing ...

Total Femoral Replacement- A Case Report

open access: yesGeriatric Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation, 2021
Introduction: Total femoral replacement(TFR) is a well-recognized salvage procedure performed after multiple failed endoprosthetic replacements, which result in severely compromised bone stock and damaged structural integrity.

Randomized preclinical study of machine perfusion in vascularized composite allografts

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), EarlyView., 2020
This study was designed to identify the optimum machine perfusion parameters for preservation of limbs before transplantation, and determine whether this was better than cold storage. Normothermic machine perfusion at a pressure of 70 mmHg (NMP‐70) provided superior preservation to cold storage after transplantation.

Complex biological reconstruction after wide excision of osteogenic sarcoma in lower extremities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Wide margin resection of extremity tumor sometimes leaves a huge soft tissue and bony defects in limb salvage surgery. Adequate management of these defects is an absolute requirement when aiming for functional limb.
