Stratigraphy and sedimentology of Pliocene limestones, Wairoa district, northern Hawke's Bay

open access: yes, 2011
This project documents the sedimentary geology of a shallow-marine, limestone-bearing Pliocene succession (Mangaheia Group; up to 1.5 km thick) within the Wairoa Syncline, northern Hawke’s Bay.

Poseidon's Sanctuary at Samikon—The Discovery of an Ancient Temple Through an Integrated Geophysical and Geoarchaeological Survey Approach for Lagoonal and Swampy Environments

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Below the classical fortress of Samikon at the coast of the western Peloponnese, ancient writer Strabo mentioned a sanctuary of Poseidon which served as the centre of the religious association of the Triphylian cities. In this paper, we describe the discovery and investigation of a building structure by means of geophysical and ...

Stratigraphy and sedimentology of Pliocene limestones in northern Hawke's Bay: The Opoiti, Whakapunake and Tahaenui Limestones

open access: yes, 2011
The Opoiti, Whakapunake and Tahaenui Limestone formations (Opoitian to Waipipian; Pliocene) crop out extensively in northern Hawke’s Bay between Wairoa and Mahia Peninsula where they are encased within mudstone dominated Wairoa Formation.

Energy Balancing of Electrochemical Alternatives to the Solvay Process

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
To overcome the CaCl2 and CO2 emissions custom to the conventional Solvay process in soda ash production, electrochemically based alternatives were investigated. In particular, the mass‐ and energy balances for chlor‐alkali electrolysis and bipolar electrodialysis‐based processes are discussed comprehensively in the presented work.

LOFER CYCLOTHEMS FROM THE LOWER KRKA LIMESTONES

open access: yes, 1993
The complete Lofer cyclothems were for the first time found in the Lower Liassic from the Slovenia part of Outer Dinarides. The Lower Liassic sequence at Krka composed of shallow water lagoonal limestones was formed in subtidal, intertidal and supratidal

Review and prospects of shear test of bolted rock joints

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The laboratory shear test equipment, test method, and numerical simulation of bolted rock joints were summarized. The shortcomings and limitations of the current research were analyzed, and the research prospects were proposed. Abstract Rock bolting is a critical approach in geotechnical engineering for supporting weak rocks.

Generalized Matsuoka–Nakai criterion considering hydrostatic pressure dependence in the brittle–ductile region

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Three sets of strength data were selected, including hydrostatic pressure independent within the brittle region (HPI‐B), hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle region (HPD‐B), and hydrostatic pressure dependent within the brittle–ductile region (HPD‐BD). For HPI type, the failure envelope within the deviatoric plane remains constant.

Petrologic evidence for earliest Miocene tectonic mobility on eastern Taranaki Basin margin

open access: yes, 2006
At Gibsons Beach on the west coast of central North Island, the earliest Miocene (Waitakian) Otorohanga Limestone, the top-most formation in the Te Kuiti Group, is unconformably overlain on an undulating, locally channelised erosion surface by the Early ...

The damage and failure mechanism of prestatically loaded rock during medium‐strain rate cyclic impact loading

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Based on experimental results and theoretical analysis, an established rock damage accumulation model that comprehensively considers the preapplied static load, impact peak value, impact frequency, and impact times. Abstract To study the rock damage mechanism under high static loading and superimposed medium strain rate cyclic impact loading, a series ...
