Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Comparative analysis of stability of large diameter steel cylinder based on FEM and limit equilibrium [PDF]
The stability mechanism of large-diameter steel cylinder under fill load has not yet formed a complete theory. In order to calculate the stability of the steel cylinder island arm structure in a certain project, the limit equilibrium and finite element ...

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Effects of system-bath entanglement on the performance of light-harvesting systems: A quantum heat engine perspective [PDF]
We explore energy transfer in a generic three-level system, which is coupled to three non-equilibrium baths. Built on the concept of quantum heat engine, our three-level model describes non-equilibrium quantum processes including light-harvesting energy ...

We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

3D limit equilibrium methods (LEMs) for assessing slope stability over large areas have been applied in some studies (e.g., Tran et al., 2018; He et al., 2018).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Response of non-equilibrium systems at criticality: Exact results for the Glauber-Ising chain
We investigate the non-equilibrium two-time correlation and response functions and the associated fluctuation-dissipation ratio for the ferromagnetic Ising chain with Glauber dynamics. The scaling behavior of these quantities at low temperature and large

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

In the previous limit equilibrium stability analyses of concave and convex slopes, the kinematic constraints are not considered in the generation of slip surfaces. To tackle this problem, this technical note proposes a method to compute safety factors of
