Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

How red is a quantum black hole?

open access: yes, 2005
Radiating black holes pose a number of puzzles for semiclassical and quantum gravity. These include the transplanckian problem -- the nearly infinite energies of Hawking particles created near the horizon, and the final state of evaporation. A definitive

The role of histone modifications in transcription regulation upon DNA damage

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This review discusses the critical role of histone modifications in regulating gene expression during the DNA damage response (DDR). By modulating chromatin structure and recruiting repair factors, these post‐translational modifications fine‐tune transcriptional programmes to maintain genomic stability.

High-K isomers: some of the questions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
High-K isomers exemplify the coexistence of individual-particle and collective motion in atomic nuclei. Here, the topic is briefly outlined, and some open questions are discussed. These include violations of the K quantum number; the high-spin limit to K

An Integrated Approach to Government Financial Policy [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, I address three questions of government financial policy: how should a government’s aversion to financial risk be determined, when are new financial investments justified, and what is the optimal level of reserves in a flexible exchange ...

Limit of Detection and Limit of Quantification Determination in Gas Chromatography

open access: yes, 2014
Any year, millions of analyses of any kind are performed around the world, and millions of decisions are made, based on these analyses; have the medicaments, the amount of drug reported in their container?, Can we safely consume this water or these foods?

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
