Lines

Human Fertility, 2017
I wrote this poem while marveling at the birth of my now 4-year-old daughter. My husband Stephen and I had tried to conceive for several months, and we were overjoyed when Sophie finally arrived. Embarking on the fertility journey again - this time with deeper awareness of my own subfertility - I reflect anew on the treasures and travails of pregnancy.

LINEs

Current Opinion in Genetics & Development, 1991
LINEs are ubiquitous transposable elements of eukaryotes. Significant information has accumulated in the past year concerning the mechanism of transposition and the intermediates involved. In addition, progress has been made in the understanding of LINE structure and evolution, and several laboratories have exploited the interspersed, repetitive nature

World Lines

IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 2010
In this paper we present World Lines as a novel interactive visualization that provides complete control over multiple heterogeneous simulation runs. In many application areas, decisions can only be made by exploring alternative scenarios. The goal of the suggested approach is to support users in this decision making process.

The U-line Line Balancing Problem

Management Science, 1994
The traditional line balancing (LB) problem considers a production line in which stations are arranged consecutively in a line. A balance is determined by grouping tasks into stations while moving forward (or backward) through a precedence network. Recently many production lines are being arranged in a “U-line,” as a consequence of the use of just-in ...

Detection of lines, line junctions and line terminations

International Journal of Remote Sensing, 2004
This paper describes an optimal line detector for the one-dimensional case which is derived from Canny's criteria, and an efficient approach for the detection of line junctions and line terminations. The line detector is extended to the two-dimensional case by operating separately in the x and y directions. An efficient implementation using an infinite

On-line and between the lines

2007
The present paper aims to share some know-how and sources of information found useful for glossary production courses, addressing teachers and students alike. Drawing on my experience from systematic, professional “terminology” work and from teaching glossary production classes, I argue that developing small-scale glossaries in fields relevant to the ...
