Hybrid topologies for series and shunt compensation of the line-commutated converter

open access: yes2016 IEEE 8th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference (IPEMC-ECCE Asia), 2016
This paper presents two concepts for enabling the operation of a line-commutated converter (LCC) at leading power angles. The concepts are based on voltage or current injection at the ac side of an LCC, which can be achieved in different ways. However, this paper focuses on the voltage and current injection by series-connected full-bridge cells that ...

Degree theory for 4‐dimensional asymptotically conical gradient expanding solitons

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 79, Issue 5, Page 1151-1298, May 2026.
Abstract We develop a new degree theory for 4‐dimensional, asymptotically conical gradient expanding solitons. Our theory implies the existence of gradient expanding solitons that are asymptotic to any given cone over S3$S^3$ with non‐negative scalar curvature. We also obtain a similar existence result for cones whose link is diffeomorphic to S3/Γ$S^3/\

Control strategy of novel hybrid commutated converter based on reverse blocking integrated gate commutated thyristor for commutation failure mitigation

open access: yesHigh Voltage
Commutation failure (CF) is an inherent problem faced by line commutated converter high voltage direct current (LCC‐HVDC) technology. To completely solve the problem of CF, we have proposed a novel hybrid commutated converter (HCC) technology based on ...

Littlewood, Paley and almost‐orthogonality: a theory well ahead of its time

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 113, Issue 5, May 2026.
Abstract The classic paper by Littlewood and Paley [J. Lond. Math. Soc. (1), 6 (1931), 230–233] marked the birth of Littlewood–Paley theory. We discuss this paper and its impact from a historical perspective, include an outline of the results in the paper and their subsequent significance in relation to developments over the last century, and set them ...

Research on Application Performance of Controllable Line-Commutated Converters with Supporting Reactive Power Capability Dynamically

open access: yesEnergies
Conventional high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems based on line-commutated converters (LCC) are prone to commutation failures and consume excessive reactive power during AC grid faults.

Red Blood Cell Membrane Mechanics Using Discrete Exterior Calculus (DEC) and Optimization

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Biomedical Engineering, Volume 42, Issue 4, April 2026.
We present a novel DEC approach for calculating RBC shapes applicable to other cell types and membrane problems. We derive an energy minimization equation that can be solved semi‐implicitly, and a Lie derivative method to control node spacing. This novel work should aid computational modeling in many biological situations.

New Monolithic Modular DC-DC Converter for Constant Current Offshore Interconnection With VSC HVdc Network

open access: yesIEEE Access
The rapid growth in HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) grids has shown the falls of point-to-point connections. Several challenges such as the requirement of DC (Direct Current) fault blocking capability, interfacing of different grounding schemes ...

Backward travelling wave-variation-based protection for the transmission line of a hybrid HVDC system

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, 2019
The hybrid high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system comprising a line-commutated converter (LCC) on the rectifier side and a voltage source converter (VSC) on the inverter side combines the advantages of both LCC and VSC.
