Line Segment Intersection Testing

Amethod for accurately determining whether two given line segments intersect is presented. This method uses the standard floating-point arithmetic that conforms to IEEE 754 standard. If three or four ending points of the two given line segments are on a same vertical or horizontal line, the intersection testing result is obtained directly.

Straight line or line segment?

The article focuses on students’ understanding of the concept of a straight line. Attention is paid to whether students of various ages work with only part of a straight line shown or if they are aware that it can be extended. The presented results were obtained by a qualitative analysis of tests given to nearly 1,500 Czech students.
