Prey selection and food habits of the Tiger Panthera tigris (Mammalia: Carnivora: Felidae) in Kalakkad-Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, southern Western Ghats, India

open access: yesJournal of Threatened Taxa, 2020
The Endangered Tiger Panthera tigris is the largest felid, distributed over 1.1 million km2 globally.  Conservation of Tigers largely depends on the preservation of its natural prey base and habitats.

Comparing the cost-effectiveness of methods for estimating population density for primates in the Amazon rainforest Peru [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
With increasingly extreme fluctuations in flood levels in the Amazon basin (Malhi et al. 2008, Marengo et al. 2012, Bodmer et al. 2014) the future of its' fauna is becoming more uncertain.

Bona Fide Intersegmental Plane Hepatectomy Along the Glissonean Branches (BIPHG)

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This review traces the author's personal journey over three decades in the evolution of liver resection techniques, culminating in the proposal of the Bona Fide Intersegmental Plane Hepatectomy Along Glissonean Branches (BIPHG). Beginning with pioneering experiences in laparoscopic and robotic liver surgeries, the author highlights key ...

Line-transect data may not produce reliable estimates of interannual sex-ratio and age structure variation in West African savannah ungulates

open access: yesTropical Zoology, 2020
Adult sex ratios and age structures are important wildlife population parameters, but they have been poorly investigated in ungulate species in West African savannahs.

A microscopically assisted limited colectomy mouse model of early colon cancer

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Establishment, surgery, and evaluation process of a microscope‐assisted limited colon resection mouse model for early‐stage colon cancer. Abstract Background Currently, there is a lack of an adequate rodent model for investigating surgical techniques and comprehensive treatment options for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC).

Efficiency of Fixed-Width Transect and Line-Transect-based Distance Sampling to Survey Red Junglefowl (Gallus gallus spadiceus) in Peninsular Malaysia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Reliable survey method is very important to estimate wildlife population. In this study, fixed-width strip- and line-transect samplings were simultaneously used to yield population estimates on oil palm plantation.

Evaluation of Pit-trap Transects With Varied Trap Spacing in a Northern Michigan Forest [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The study compared effects of four distances between traps (range 0.5-4.0 m) on arthropod captures. Twelve traps were aligned in each of four transects, and 20 samples.

Spatial modelling from line transect data

open access: yesJ. Cetacean Res. Manage., 1999
In this paper, two new methods are presented that enable spatial models to be fitted from line transect data. Building on preliminary work by Cumberworth et al. (1996) and Hedley et al. (1997), the first method is based on a count model and involves dividing the survey effort into small segments then modelling the number of schools in each segment.

In‐vitro puncture experiment using alligator teeth tracks the formation of dental microwear and its association with hardness of the diet

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract With the development of dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA), there has been an increasing application of DMTA for dietary estimation in extant and fossil reptiles, including dinosaurs. While numerous feeding experiments exist for herbivorous mammals, knowledge remains limited for carnivorous reptiles. This study aimed to qualitatively and

Quantifying Wildlife Abundance: Negative Rayleigh Modeling of Line Transect Data

open access: yesMathematics
This study introduces a negative Rayleigh detection model for estimating population abundance in line transect surveys. The model satisfies key detection conditions and provides a detailed analysis of its probability density function, moments, and other ...
