Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Determination of Characteristics of Dry Bean Lines Hybridized by Line x Tester Method and the Effect of Heredity

open access: yesTürk Tarım ve Doğa Bilimleri Dergisi, 2020
In this study, two dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) (Great Northern 59 and Alberto) and a bombay bean (Phaseolus coccineus L.) (testers) were crossed with five bean genotypes (Phaseolus vulgaris L. PV04001, PV05023, PV04042, PV04026 and PV04032) (lines). F1 hybrids obtained by the line x tester method (5x3).

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Combining ability analysis of newer inbred lines derived from national yellow pool for grain yield and other quantitative traits in maize (Zea mays L.) [PDF]

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2011
Information on combing ability is important for effective breeding strategies in a cross pollinated crop like maize. Twenty nine inbred lines were derived from national yellow pool based on their performance in their S4 generation.

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Genetic evaluation of yield and yield attributing traits in rice (Oryza sativa L.) using line x tester analysis

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Plant Breeding, 2019
In order to study the combining behaviour of quantative traits of rice, line x tester (10x3) progenies were generated involving 10diverse parents viz., Basmati 370, Basmati 564, Saanwal basmati, Pusa basmati 1121, Pusa basmati 1, Pusasugandh, RR-600 ...

Line X Tester Analysis of Early Maturing Maize Inbred Lines for Yield And Secondary Traits

open access: yes, 2022
Improving maize grain yield is a major objective of breeding programs in sub–Saharan Africa. This study was conducted to evaluate the potential of two multiple stress tolerant early maturing maize populations and for improving the cross performance of elite early maturing inbred lines.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.
