Circular Polarimetry of Hard X-rays with Rayleigh Scattering

open access: yesAtoms, 2022
We present a theoretical investigation of the elastic Rayleigh scattering of X-rays by atomic targets. Special attention is paid to the question of how the polarization of the scattered photons is affected if the incident light is itself polarized.

A Switchable Linear to Circular Polarization Converter Using PIN Diodes [PDF]

open access: yes2021 International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation (ISAP), 2021
In this paper, we present a method to design a switchable polarizer using p-in diodes. An antenna-filterantenna architecture with four metal layers (receiving and transmitting radiating elements, ground plane, and bias lines) is implemented to convert an impinging linearly-polarized electromagnetic wave to a circularly-polarized one.

Circular Polarization near the Tight Focus of Linearly Polarized Light

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
We have considered the tight focusing of light with linear polarization. Using the Richards–Wolf formalism, it is shown that before and after the focal plane, there are regions in which the polarization is circular (elliptical).

Water Cloud Detection with Circular Polarization Lidar: A Semianalytic Monte Carlo Simulation Approach

open access: yesSensors, 2022
This work presents polarization property studies of water clouds using a circular polarization lidar through a simulation approach. The simulation approach is based on a polarized, semianalytic Monte Carlo method under multiple-scattering conditions and ...

Radio Linear and Circular Polarization from M81* [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2006
We present results from archival Very Large Array (VLA) data and new VLA observations to investigate the long term behavior of the circular polarization of M81*, the nuclear radio source in the nearby galaxy M81. We also used the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Association (BIMA) array to observe M81* at 86 and 230 GHz.

Low-Profile Reflective Surface for Multi-Band Linear-to-Linear and Linear-to-Circular Polarization Conversion

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
This paper proposes a thin multiband reflective polarization converter surface capable of transforming a linearly polarized (LP) incident electromagnetic (EM) wave into its orthogonal LP reflection wave in frequency bands of 8.14-8.25 GHz, 10.23-10.60 ...

Linear dichroism and circular dichroism in photosynthesis research [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The efficiency of photosynthetic light energy conversion depends largely on the molecular architecture of the photosynthetic membranes. Linear- and circular-dichroism (LD and CD) studies have contributed significantly to our knowledge of the molecular ...

Linear-to-Circular Polarization Conversion Using Metasurface

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 2013
A metasurface (MS) used to convert the linearly polarized (LP) signal from a source antenna into a circularly polarized (CP) signal is proposed and studied. The MS consists of 16 unit cells arranged in a 4 × 4 layout. Each unit cell is a rectangular loop with a diagonal microstrip.

Polarization singularities in isotropic random vector waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Following Nye & Hajnal, we explore the geometry of complex vector waves by regarding them as a field of polarization ellipses. Singularities of this field are the C lines and L lines, where the polarization is purely circular and purely linear ...
