Design Considerations for Coreless Linear Actuators
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2013Linear permanent magnet synchronous motors are often used in applications where a high accuracy is needed. This paper investigates the influence of the key design parameters on the performance of a linear actuator with vertically magnetized magnets and a magnet array with quasi-Halbach magnetization.

The unique properties of SMA microactuators appear to be very attractive for microrobotic applications. In the following, SMA linear actuators and related optical microswitches and microgrippers will be discussed. As for SMA microvalves, a dedicated technological approach is pursued for their realization, which is based on micromachining SMA plates or ...

Linearized Torque Actuation Using FPGA-Controlled Magnetorheological Actuators
IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, 2015In recent years, magnetorheological (MR) clutches have been increasingly used for realizing compliant actuation. One difficulty in using MR clutches is the existence of nonlinear hysteretic behaviors between the input current and output torque of an MR clutch. In this paper, a new closed-loop, field-programable-gate-array (FPGA)-based control scheme to

Conducting IPN actuators: From polymer chemistry to actuator with linear actuation
Synthetic Metals, 2006Among electroactive actuators, those based on electronic conducting polymers (ECPs) possess several advantages (low actuation voltages, large deformations, etc.) but also some drawbacks (bending movements only, delamination, etc.). In order to overcome the delamination process observed in working three-layered actuators, we have developed a new concept

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1973
A new type of electrically energized linear actuator has been developed for the appliance industry which offers high-force output from a small inexpensive package. The new linear actuator uses a single solid-state component to control the operation of the device.

Linear Bidirectional Solenoid Actuator
1975Abstract : Recent Air Force contracts have identified the need for very high frequency response (700 Hz), high force level, linear actuators for use in wide bandwidth mirror positioning systems. This report describes testing performed on a linear-motion, bidirectional solenoid with a rated 52 pound continuous force capability.
